I am new the site and seeking some ideas to help me understand what I am dealing with. For about four months, many weekday afternoons at work, low-frequency tinnitus kicks in. Sometimes, it follows a morning of hyperacusis at meetings, but other days it just starts happening. I have two main theories going right now: work stress/fatigue, and something off in my neck that gets agitated by working on my laptop for hours.

I will often arrive home with my ears still humming, and sometimes I can get it to stop by lying down for a while. If not, going to sleep turns off the hum, as I always have woken up with no tinnitus. (Mornings are sometimes for some hyperacusis, including at home.)

Appreciate any insights from others.

I think you are right there is something off with your neck. You should prob go see a doctor regarding that and it may solve the problem. TMJ could also be an issue with clenching that causes it.
