Has anyone tried a weighted blanket for depression, anxiety and insomnia?

Basically it's a blanket that's 10% of your body weight and it 'hugs' you thereby minimising fidgeting and is supposed to help you sleep better and longer, which we know some of us don't.

I slept under a heavy shawl last night and was zonked for 9 hours. Mind you I tend to sleep better when I've taken Mirtazapine the night before.

Anyone got one?

I've seen these advertised. I have an anxiety disorder and those blankets have no appeal to me. I wouldn't want a heavy weight pressing on me when I'm sleeping. In fact, I like the warm weather so I don't need any blanket at all. I like to be able to move freely. I think it would freak me out if something were pressing me down.

I haven't tried one, but I've used a "spike mat" every night for 15 years. It's a mat with gentle plastic spikes that induces relaxation and sleepiness among other things.

Tinnitus is horrible, but the second worst health issue I had was when I had constant muscle twitches in my anus after a weightlifting accident. Imagine years of that... This spike mat saved my life back then. Now the problem is finally gone but comes back from caffeine and stress

Haven't tried Allan1967 but I'm thinking of buying one.

How are you doing bro?

Apparently the fidgeting is what makes people anxious. By being restricted slightly or cocooned it helps calm your mind. I'm getting one at some point.

I'm doing ok bro just getting use to the steam kettle sound that's in my head. Lol

Thankfully I feel the volume has gone down a bit from my recent Effexor spike that doubled my tinnitus volume.

Did you check out the list of meds?

If it works for you, go for it. Any treatment that helps without also harming is one I'm all for. But for me personally, restriction is anxiety-producing. I like to be able to move freely.

I just sleep under two duvets. Feels like you're getting a hug!

Ok, there ARE things worse than T.

Human body is fragile - so many things can go so horribly wrong...

I do agree that heavy blankets have a soothing effect. Of course, having a partner is even better.

Sounds horrible. I had chronic twitching in my eyes for years. I finally began to apply a mixture of DMSO and magnesium oil over my closed eyelids, and vuella, the twitching was gone in about 1-2 days--and never returned. My eyes used to get quite tired when on the computer for very long, and they just never bother me any more since my DMSO miracle .

I have one for over 2 years now. My husband bought it for me. :puppykisses: I love it and it definitely helps to ease low levels of anxiety. It feels nice and soothing wrapped on you. They come in different weights. You have to figure which one is best for you, based on your body weight. Mine is 14 lbs. I do not sleep with it, just use it during the day while reading, crocheting or watching tv. Nice and warm also. Anything that will help me to relax at least a little bit, is a winner for me. Let me also suggest wood wick candles.

This past Christmas I gave one to my husband. I got him a 20lb. He says it helps him to sleep  better and not twist and turn so much in bed. A winner for us.

If you are going to buy one get a good quality one.

Once.

Good tip, I'll try it. I take large amounts of magnesium to keep it in check currently. I also have had involontary movements of my right index finger for 15 years, but that's less bothersome
