Definitely recommend Whiplash to everyone here. J.K. Simmons does a masterful job portraying a psychopath hellbent on producing the next Charlie Parker and Buddy Rich.

I really enjoy the themes that Whiplash explores. Themes like the dynamics of the coach-student relationship, the psychological methods for skill improvement, the consequences of verbal and physical abuse on mental well-being, motivation, and ultimately the idea of pushing people beyond their usual limits out of them, even if it takes a toll on their mental health. There’s lots to think about.

Nightmare on Elm Street. Classic 80s horror. Not much else to say really.

I also recently completed watching the HBO mini TV series, Chernobyl. An excellent historical drama about the Nuclear power plant disaster in 1986. It does a mighty fine job portraying the shortcomings, incompetency, deception, assholery, and inferiority complex within the Soviet Union, which still influences Russia to this day. It’s a nation built on lies and deception. Bless the former Soviet bloc countries in breaking away from those barbaric A-holes.

"The Killer" was a good take on the 'killer for hire targeted for death' genre. I liked Fasbender's acting as well. Worth a watch if you have Netflix.

I watched Five Nights at Freddy's and I really wanted to turn it off after 30 minutes; wife wanted to stick it out to see what happened.

Really poor and plodding. Don't waste your time.

Rewatched The @RunningMan recently. A another 80s gem. I also feel it’s one more of the more underrated Arnold Schwarzenegger films.

There's a unique charm to 80s films that just hits differently—those feel-good vibes are contagious and The Running Man is good example of that.

I did find myself having to lower the volume during certain scenes, particularly those involving chainsaws. I hate hearing those sounds.

Just watched "Leave the World Behind" on Netflix. It passed the time and was interesting to start with, and then became a bit strange towards the end. The end of the movie was lacking.

      Three out of five stars.

Just watched "#Unfit: The Psychology of Donald Trump" for the first time. It is an excellent documentary where mental health professionals and medical doctors discuss the behaviour, psyche, and stability of President Donald Trump, as well as his effect on American culture.

      Highly recommended.

      Great movie.

I can recommend another movie with a genie: Three Thousand Years of Longing. Both my wife and I really enjoyed it and Tilda Swinton, Idris Alba really were great together.

Daniel Day Lewis takes method acting to whole new level. He’s a beast.

I rewatched Modern Times (1936). Charlie Chaplin is always fun to watch.

This is a film made in the Great Depression era and it’s kinda scary how relevant this movie still is to this day. It's like nothing's really changed, especially with how workers get exploited.

I recently watched American Splendor, about Harvey Pekar, a graphic novel writer from working class roots in Ohio. He was an amazing dude and Krump did his illustrations about his life working as a clerk in the VA hospital.

      Amazing film.

It is also worth watching him on David Letterman, he will blow your mind. Guaranteed.

I watched the new Aquaman. It was what I expected; great sound and visuals if you have a nice home theater system. As far as acting and plot, well you know...

Hello there @tpj. Fight Club, the film, was based on a book by Chuck Palahniuk. He just may be my favorite author. Nobody is darker or funnier. Super cool guy with an equally amazing life story. Invisible Monsters or Rancid will have you in stitches.

Speaking of Lincoln... thinking of you @ZFire.

Watched Oppenheimer. Probably one of the greatest biopics I’ve ever seen and Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus. The movie is great for anyone interested in the Manhattan Project.

I thought the Trinity test scene was going to be extremely loud, but ironically it was the quietest scene of the whole movie lol. There was only one really quick moderately loud shockwave sound though. But the whole scene was whisper silent.

Watched it Friday. The overall content was great, but both my wife and I were a bit confused by the storyline until we realized that it was flipping timelines.

Also, the closed caption started leading the dialogue, sometimes by a lot, which made it hard for us to follow. The speed of the dialogue also created a brain attention issue for me; reading the leading closed caption and then hearing the dialogue, while still trying to finish reading the caption, was quite frustrating.

Probably a better experience for those without extreme hearing deficits and tinnitus problems.
