What Are Your Experiences with Lidocaine? Does It Silence Your Tinnitus?

Has anyone ever tried Lidocaine as a potential treatment for their tinnitus?

I've read a few people who have mentioned that a side effect of receiving Lidocaine is that their tinnitus goes away for a little while, although temporarily.

Then just this week I've been speaking with someone whose doctor tried an alternative treatment for his tinnitus that involved soaking bandages in Lidocaine and put them in his nose for 30 minutes and he said his tinnitus has been quiet for the last several days.

I've read that there may be side effects but I'm curious if anyone else has tried something like this?

I went as far as buying Lidocaine patches, with the intention of placing them around my ear. Then I found out that lidocaine is ototoxic.

Lidocaine is ototoxic, yet it has helped that guy... what a stupid disease LOL. Antidepressants worsen tinnitus, yet a few people get their tinnitus reduced by them. I can't stand this stupidity anymore.

I'm supposed to go on Milgamma for 10 days soon. It is a Vitamin B complex + lidocaine antitoxicant. Didn't know the latter was ototoxic though. Not sure what to do now. That said, i'm still taking the AD which was one ofthe two drugs that gave me tinnitus in thefirst place (want to get off it, but can't easily).

It may take 100 years to finally work out this tinnitus thing. So many paradoxes.

It's hard to sharp shoot a moving target like tinnitus.

I woudln't call a small minority thousands of people who got worse on Amitryptiline. It's 50/50.

I am not sure where you are getting that "thousands" figure. I am aware of just a handful of published case reports as well as a few dozen posts on this forum where this drug made tinnitus to spike. Thousands Take this drug. If 50% of the people who take it were to get a bad reaction, we would eventually find out and nobody would be taking it.

After reading many of those studies, my best guess is that it is more likely to reduce tinnitus than to increase it, and that the most likely outcome is that there won't be any impact on tinnitus. My guess is that less than 1% experience a spike in tinnitus following taking this drug, but of course it isn't based on any rigorous studies.

I have been on it for maybe 4 months now. I haven't had worsening that I am aware of.

Although I have been having fleeting tinnitus that presents as beeps (this has only been the last week) which I had never experienced. Coincidence? Who knows.

Three years ago I had taken it for a couple of weeks. It helped me to fall asleep, and didn't have any impact on my tinnitus.

Definitely helps with falling asleep. can be a god send for people with pain and even just sleeping issues with tinnitus.

One can't get addicted to it, and the next morning one doesn't feel drowsy.
