Hey,

I've been digging reasonably far and wide on Tinnitus Talk for suggestions on what you all use for ear pain relief but haven't seen much.

My pain isn't severe but it comes on after periods of 65 dB+ sound and I will be attending an event for several hours tomorrow that I can't avoid. I will use earplugs but I will need something else to help through the pain if possible.

I was intending to avoid Aspirin and Ibuprofen. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Is CBD available where you live? That helps my ear pain. Klonopin helps, too. If you've already been taking Klonopin regularly, you could try taking a bit more either before or after the noise exposure to ease the pain. Best of luck with your event!

I also take Tylenol as needed, but that only works if my pain is pretty minor.

Don't take benzos unless you're at death's door! They can make things much worse, and the withdrawal is often hellish and very long lasting...

Surprised no one has mentioned Nortriptyline although it has its own caveats.

Why are you surprised, and what are the caveats? Looking to get on it as of tomorrow.
Surprised because it seems to be the drug of choice, and caveat it because some people say it made their tinnitus worse.

So that's good then, I guess?
Not trying to be enigmatic - it wasn't bad, but just didn't solve my issues. I've been having a tough time for about 6 months so maybe I'm just a bit deflated and that's why my responses read as such.

I see you. I hope this all goes away. I'm similar to your time frame, mine started October ish, mid October I'd say.

What has your withdrawal symptoms been like? My tinnitus got super fucking loud, like fire alarm loud for a week and a half after I stopped taking my benzos.

I can't even list all them, as I had loads of them, but the worst were severe anxiety, depression, pressure and pain in the chest, muscle pains all over, headaches, a constant sense of complete doom, feeling like I was going insane, trouble concentrating, light sensitivity, increased hyperacusis, and so on...

I know it sounds INSANE but actually the vast majority of people who take medications don't die from them.

Was it Keppra or Retigabine that caused Danny Boy's horrible eye symptoms? I definitely wouldn't touch the kind of drug that gave Danny Boy those symptoms.

What is a good day for you?
Yesterday was amazing - the tinnitus was audible but not super intrusive and I basically had free reign to do whatever I wanted without being limited by noise.

Today is horrible - I got woken up by my tinnitus which was screaming. I had to take meds to knock myself out again, and now despite taking Xanax and Kava it's still quite annoying, enough to hear over anything in my house. It effectively dictates how much work I can do and how productive I can be.
