Cause of Tinnitus
after cold and ear syringing 20-30% of volume 06/2018
Hi,

Just posting what I'm doing to manage and hopefully get rid of tinnitus in the long term, any other ideas would be appreciated.

- Vitamin supplement, I had this at home, it's for the eyes but it has the vitamins needed for tinnitus, so started taking a month ago:

- Magnesium supplement, I had involuntary movements in the eyes and muscles for years so I thought I could be lacking magnesium, started taking this first one daily, and now I'm taking two for a few days:

- Using ear plugs at bath.
- Stopped using earphones.
- Use earplugs in loud environments like the mall BUT don't use it in daily activities to avoid hiperacusis.
- Increased my sleep to at least 8 hours daily.
- Taking Alprazolam 0,25 at night to improve sleep (ENT gave it to me).
- Also taking Flunarizine not sure why (ENT gave it to me). I think it's for circulation? He seemed very experienced and committed, did various tests including using a feather to do some tests in both sides of the face.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

  • listen to white/pink noise/nature sounds/music if you're in a quiet room (e.g. at home)
  • listen to white/pink noise/nature sounds/music while sleeping
    • preferably over speakers, not earbuds or headphones
    • don't be in a quiet room so that your brain doesn't focus solely on your t
  • regular sleep schedule
  • drink enough water
  • maybe try yoga and/or meditation
    • or try other things if you tend to feel stressed/anxious/overwhelmed/etc often
  • exercise regularly
  • basically: try to be as healthy as possible to give your body the best possible chance to recover but don't be too hard on yourself if it doesn't work out in the end (however, you only had tinnitus for two months, it could still go away)

I prefer silence instead of pink noise, because it makes my tinnitus worse. (it's reactive)

I live almost normally but when I'm home I try to stay in silence to give the ears a chance to cure.

I forgot to tell, I implemented a diet where I got almost rid of processed foods.

My tinnitus improved a lot in the last month BUT I don't think it really improved, think it is just the habits that I changed. (if I go back to my old life the tinnitus will be as bad as it was)

I have 3 sound oasis machines in my house to avoid being in silent rooms. I sometimes get lazy and don't turn them on and that's a mistake because I focus on the T more.

I've been taking lipoflavenoid, NAC, and Vitamin A and started this week Archies for the Zinc and Ginkgo.

I got back to work last week which is good but I've been stress eating and not exercising like I should be.

Going for just short walk does wonders for my sanity. Even it's on a treadmill, I'm able to be distracted just enough to take my mind off T.

It's odd, but pink/white noise don't do much for me either and I also prefer the quiet. Maybe living in the city has something to do with that?

I just keep busy, a big one for me is fishing. When I'm out on the lake my T is virtually gone! (Even though if I listen, it still sounds like a shitty orchestra in my head lol) that's how I cope! Aside from avoiding silence like the plague and not thinking/miring about it. Do you find magnesium helps?

So far I think time and better sleep is the only healing factor here.
I don't know if magnesium is making effect or not.

Hey,
I see your taking magnesium oxide, I took that for 3 month hoping it would do something. It did nothing at all for me in any way. I recently found out its the worst absorbable form of magnesium supplement. The best absorbable is magnesium citrate. Its more expensive but it works really well at calming me down and getting better sleep, perhaps it works for T as well. I would recommend citrate.

Nice list btw, I would recommend NAC as well, it is said to work protective against further worsening of T.

What diet do you take?
Im doing paleo to eliminate processed foods from my diet.

Eliminated things like hamburgers etc and added carrots, tomatoes and lettuce.
Bit sleeping 8 hours is the most importante thing, more than diet

@dm222: You are absolutely right about not eating prosessed food. All the salt, sugar, different chemicals, etc., is a trigger for tinnitus. Leave that stuff behind, including red meat, and you will see improvement with your t.
