* Ear infection * 20 years later huge sound increase due to stress

I think thi has kind of been discussed before but I like the poll!
So mine is: barotrauma from transatlantic airplane flight. But I previously ad a sinus infection that I don't think had resolved although I really didn't have symptoms at that time. And I had been going through incredible workplace stress for two years. I think in a lot of cases, there are multiple underlying causes for T and then something (like my flight) pulls the trigger. I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually realize there are various forms of tinnitus, just as there are fr Alzheimers

i think TMJ. pushing down on my jaw with my hands makes the pressure in my ears go away. my face is numb around the jaw, ever since i had braces and 4 teeth pulled i think this is why. my dentist said i dont have TMJ. so i dont know what to do

I can only guess. I don't know what the cause is. I've hit my head a few times when I was a child plus I've got some TMJ issues so who knows. I don't really remember when I first started noticing it either. But as far as I can remember I haven't had exposure to loud noise for years at a time. I did work for about 3 mos in a General Motors factory but wore hearing protection. I do clench my teeth sometimes when I sleep, also. Oh yeah, I've had a lot of stress at times in my life. Shoot it could be anything.

The ENT consultant said I have cochlear hydrops, which seems to be linked to Mennieres. I have some low pitch hearing loss and constant tinnitus, which is like a low hum. The good thing is that I don't yet have the other mennieres symptoms of dizziness and nausea. I don't have a feeling of blocked ears either. I think I've had low grade tinnitus for a long time but thought it was just the sound of living in a city. The tinnitus I have now started suddenly and I've been like this for nearly a year. It's OK though. The tinnitus, though constant, is always the same and I have learnt to put up with it mostly.

Just wanted to know if you could share what you think caused your t ? Just one word if you like ....

Mine , stress, depression,excessive mastubation triggered .

Prolonged stress + champion mental gymnast = Grinding/clenching of teeth x 10 = TMJD
And then it loops.
It is a mess.

I was thinking we already had a thread on this, but maybe it has been addressed piecemeal under other threads... Markku will merge them, I assume, if that's the case.

Anyway: Mine was caused by barometric pressure trauma and eustachian tube dysfunction on a transatlantic flight.
I flew with an undetected sinus infection.

But I believe three years of intense workplace stress, coupled with some anxiety issues I was not aware of, probably laid the groundwork. The barotrauma was the trigger.

The more I read, the more I am convinced in many cases, one thing alone does not cause tinnitus.

Believe it or not..... absolutely no clue!! No trauma, no loud noises, no medication issues, no ear infections or ear problems. Maybe a little stress, but come on, who doesn't have a little stress! I am an anomaly!!!

Originally, noise-induced. Then, 25 years later, made worse by a blood pressure drug.

Mine might have been caused by a combination of things, stress, anxiety & panic disorders, hearing loss, and perhaps barometric pressure. Within the month before the start of my tinnitus, I was a bit stressful about the family finance, I was trying to fix a malfunctioning smoke alarm without ear plugs, and I just came back from a flight.

no actually there are many people who don't really know a cause and just woke up one day with Tinnitus! You are not an anomaly!

Caused by masturbation? I think I would have had tinnitus years ago if that was possible.

mine came from stupidity :dohanimation:

Join the club.

I'm surprised by all the people who think stress played a role in them developing tinnitus. I know tmj can cause it but I didn't think stress alone could.
