Cause of Tinnitus
Not sure...
I am still working in an small office, which seems to be the "safest" place to work with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis...

But when I think about all the different jobs, most of them can be very loud! For example working with children, construction, in a garage, everything including tools, waiter/waitress, etc...

How do you manage your work with Tinnitus and Hyperacusis?

Wish you all the Best!

Christophe

Freelance translator, I work from home.

Before that I was a translation project coordinator in an office, working within a team, and it has never been an issue for my tinnitus.

Currently unemployed due to severe tinnitus and severe hyperacusis.

I also work in a private office where it is usually very quiet. As part of my job, I led committees and teams and do a lot of training of students and employees. However, I also do home remodeling on my own home. When I do this louder work, I wear 32 db reducing ear pluds and 28 dbs reducing muffs over that.

Sorry to read that !

What kind of work could you do now ?
I am stuck on that one. My previous career was too high stress for someone with lots of health issues. A friend who also had to give up her job due to ill health told me of this site called people per hour - have a look there and see if there are skills you can sell, if you are investigating options

I work retail.
I don't know how much longer I can do it.
My boss is nudging me to fill out my Americans with Disabilities form. I've been with the company for over a decade. It's just...recent company changes makes it seem I will have to change positions. They say it's because I can't fulfill job responsibilities. But the responsibilities I need help with aren't core roles. I wish they'd just allow me to be an exception.

To be clear, this is more to do with my chronic pain than t and h.

I can't lift more than a few pounds, I can't type, I can't handle paper.

Sound wise I think it's fine for tinnitus and those with mild hyperacusis. Since my H got worse I've been struggling but perhaps that is to be expected.

My store doesn't play music and different store positions are better than others. If there are loud customers I usually just walk away. Although there is a rare occasion where the loud customers are the ones I am helping.

If you live in the USA and have nothing worse than mild H, I am willing to disclose what company I work for in a PM and what positions I'd recommend. The pay here is decent, above minimum wage.

Not at all. We only have a handful of officers out at a time. Theres only two dispatchers. It's a lot of talking on the phone and watching people be stupid on CCTV. I got T 2 weeks before I got this job.

You work full time ? 8 hours per day ?

From my side, I got T 2 weeks before my 30th birthday... I cancelled the event... What a gift from Life !

Do you work full-time ? Like 8 hours a day or more ?

Did you have chronic pain before getting T and H ?

Sorry to read that ! :(

Yes actually, I may like to work in some stores but everytime the music is too loud, especially for the whole day !

No I am in Switzerland but thank you for your info !

I work in an office, there's just enough ambient noise to make the tinnitus low enough. When I engage my brain in my work I'm not paying attention to my tinnitus which is nice.

Volunteer dog walker......I'm looking for something better but my broken life and screaming T are not so keen.
