What Noises Do You Hear and Is There Any Correlation Between the Noise and the Underlying Cause?

Omg! I was just thinking this yesterday morning but too afraid to post as I thought it would be a question that would go under the radar. So I am so glad you posted this Deb.
So my noise is a hiss sometimes static type of noise. And I believe my tinnitus derived from a terrible cold and slot

a friend of mine seems to think there is a connection between the type of noise we hear and the cause of onset..i hear a central constant shhhhh noise that sounds like a far away gas leak...along with a constant, sometimes pulsing hissing on my right side that localises to my right ear during a spike. preceding a spike, I always have a blocked ear. why is that?

Mine is a constant hissing noise, in my right ear only, with a pulsating underbeat (I have pulsatile tinnitus, too). It doesn't seem to be coming from my head, but from my right ear.

The cause? Well, about 25 years ago, it was a loud sound. But what made it worse was four years ago, I took a blood pressure drug for the first time. That's what started the hissing and the pulsating.

Mine is a hissing in my head. I think it is loud since I can always hear it.:(
Was caused by high level of stress. Sudden onset like a binary switch.
Never had T or anything with my ears before.
I think this high level of stress started neurons in my brain to fire like crazy.
Never had any depression, anxiety or sleep problems before.
Still on the road towards habituation, but it is damn loud.

I hear a ringy hissing sound with electrical current noise all of which seems to be coming from my head and not my ears.I dont know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

I have the same hissing sound with the electrical current noise. It sounds like it surrounds my head although I only have T in my left ear/side of head/temple. In the morning when I wake up it's more like a ringing/cicada sound but changes after I'm up a while. Some days it goes so low as to be a squeal but not more than one or two days a week.

You mentioned that yours started from a loud noise. Was it just one incident or a series of loud noises since years ?

@Asian,

It was just one incident; loud noise (too near speakers) at a concert. It affected my right ear only, and that's how it still is today. I only have tinnitus and pulsatile tinnitus in my right ear.

Whoa! Hard to believe that just one incident caused it. The concert must have been super loud I guess. Also it must have be so hard and unfair for you in the beginning I can imagine. Sorry that you have to go through all this. May god help you become more stronger and overcome this. Has it gone away at any point of time since 15 years ? I mean not intermittent but gone for a long time like days or weeks or months?

For me, it does not seem to be acoustic trauma, it's from ototoxic meds and without hearing loss. Therefore, I don't hear eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, but more like shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Like a TV that is not on the right channel. I also hear a morse code (very very faint) on the right.

I've heard eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee after being around loud noises (before I had T) and it always went away in the morning.

Interesting, I hear an "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" sound (never had a 'shhhhhh') maybe it's not ototoxicity for me after all

My left ears Tinnitus sound like a normal sinus tone at 4000hz /4khz. It is extremely sound reactive but not loud in total. Lets say 2-3/10.

My right ears Tinnitus sound almost exactly like a "morse code machine" beeping at 1400hz

Mine sounds like a very high pitched static/white noise sometimes it sounds electrical almost. Sometimes it's like the 'eeeeeeeeeeee' sound just very high pitched. It also goes through cycles loud one day, lower the next, loud, quiet etc and is reactive to television or other loud sounds.

They aren't sure the cause. Either pregnancy related, mild hearing loss or stress induced.
