What to Avoid When Seeing an ENT or Audiologist?

@Contrast

Indeed it would but I don't think a civil debate will be possible with you regarding hyperacusis or Jastreboff's TRT model, because you and others in this forum, have already made up your mind that hyperacusis cannot be successfully treated and Jastreboff TRT model is a scam. All this is based on information that you have read at websites and pasted umpteen times in this forum and you believe it to be true, having had no personal experience of TRT.

I have had TRT twice, the full treatment and not a scaled down version of it and know that it works. It is not a cure for tinnitus it is, Tinnitus Retraining Therapy. You also believe that anyone suffering from oversensitivity to sound unless pain is felt, it cannot be hyperacusis and therefore it is Reactive Tinnitus,which there is no such thing. This term was made-up in tinnitus forums. Pain is not always felt with hyperacusis contrary to what some people believe. I once had very severe hyperacusis that was completely cured in 2 years using white noise generators as part of TRT 22 years ago.

It would be nice to have a debate on the conditions that you have mentioned, but unless you have some personal experience of treatments that you've tried, instead of basing your opinions on website information, I don't think this is possible.

Hi - I've read The research on this retraining therapy and I see that it is the only viable treatment out there that shows some efficacy. I'm going into my audiologist on Wednesday. T started about two or three weeks ago and I want to get started on retraining right away. Can you tell me a bit more about your retraining experiences working with an audiologist? I've illuminated coffee and cut way back on salt and I've noticed a slight decrease in volume I am hoping I can make more progress

I think you may be a bit early to start this kind of treatment. T does get better for many naturally.

How have you determined the cause of your T? Is that a diagnosis provided by your doctors?

HI @Linderbee,

If you have just acquired tinnitus, then it is far too early for you to be starting TRT or any other tinnitus treatment, except counselling (if needed) and perhaps medication to help with any stress and anxiety you may have caused by the tinnitus. Leave it for at least 6months preferably longer if it has reduced within this time. Please click on the links below which will explain TRT at length and the experiences that I have had with it. There is also a link/post advising what people should do who are new to tinnitus.

Please take your time and real all of my articles, that way you will get a full understanding of tinnitus and the way it can be treated and what habituation entails. If you have anymore questions then please ask.
All the best

Michael
