What's up guys, been lurking for a little bit not and decided it's time for me to vent lol.

For about a year and a half now I've had tinnitus but I didn't know what it was until the day of my 21st birthday which was just last month. I told a buddy of mine that I had this ringing in my ear and he told me to get it checked out, ever since that day it's sucked so much... not a day goes by that I don't think about tinnitus, it started in my left ear and a week and a half ago my right ear popped and I got it in that one too.

I went to an ENT and like everyone else I had an MRI done checking if I had acoustic neuroma, that came out negative, I had a hearing test and the doctor said my hearing was fine.

Throughout the day I forget I have it sometimes but when I start to focus on it and actually listen to it, it freaks me the F out, gets me super anxious and nervous. I hate telling people about it because everyone thinks it's not that big of a deal but to be honest this thing freaks me out.

I'm not too sure about the technical term for the type of tinnitus I have, all I know is that it's a high pitched ringing in my ear 24/7.

I wanna try some supplements but I'm scared about long term affects which is why I haven't been taking anything aside from melatonin, I can't even sleep at night, I haven't had a full night's sleep in a month now.

You seemed to have been habituated during the year and a half, I hope over time you habituate again.

Machines are coming out (3 of them).
Hopefully it'll fade over time.

I'm very new to this myself so can't offer much advice but I noticed the more anxious I feel/the more attention I pay to it the more intrusive it gets.

First of all, chances are that the sound you will be stuck with is Not the sound that you are hearing right now. Tinnitus fades for many people. Even if you don't experience fading, most people get habituated (it stops bothering them) after about 2 years [and many take even less time to habituate, of course it all depends on a person's personality and the volume and pitch of their tinnitus]. The first three months are the hardest. Hang in there...

Everything I've read about establishing a bedtime routine is helping as far as sleep. No Tv an hour before bed. Make it quiet time. Dim lights, read. I play a tinnitus sound track while reading. Once in bed I use a sound pillow on white noise and do a 15 minute mindful meditation session to further relax. Results? I've gone from no sleep to getting 5 hours after staying awake till 1am and last night I fell asleep much sooner and stayed asleep longer. Just being able to sleep makes it easier to deal with. I did take Olly (Melatonin based sleep aid) a friend recommended last night so I'm not sure if that was part of it. Had had no luck with plain Melatonin. I haven't used it long enough to tell and when I have slept I always try to fall asleep without using anything but sound and meditation the next night because I don't want to become dependent on even natural products.
