White Noise Unpleasant

So, I used to love white noise (from a fan). I've used it for many years, like 14 years. I have only had t for 2.5.

When. I got t I noticed white noise would only mask the low noise and I used crickets on my phone to mask the other noise.

Currently going through a bit of a relapse (2 weeks so far ) and noticed I can hear my high pitched t over my fan and crickets....

However, if I turn the fan off I can't hear my high pitch noise above the fan.... Hence I think my t now doesn't like my fan.

I'm thinking and hoping that due to my anxiety, it causing a little reaction that will go away soon.

Thoughts.

@Burnsie ,
Try some soft music or sleep music see if it helps.
I found utube easyjet masking good for both high and low tinnitus at the same time and quite soothing.
You can also download fan sounds that play a few fan sounds in pitch and strength.
Good luck and hope your tinnitus settles.

If your tinnitus was previously at a level where you could comfortably cope with it and it has suddenly increased, then something has caused this. You don't say what originally caused your tinnitus? If it was noise induced, then usually it is further exposure to loud noise that has caused the increase. If it is an underlying medical problem that is responsible, then you should have tests done at ENT. Stress can also cause tinnitus to increase and this needs to be managed.

By the way, tinnitus should not be masked (covered up) so it can't be heard. If you do this then your brain will have difficulty habituating to it. This is the problem using a fan, its sound level/volume cannot be adjusted. It is better to use a standalone sound machine that plays nature sound or white noise if you prefer, and set the volume slightly lower than your tinnitus. The brain cannot habituate to tinnitus unless it can hear it slightly above the sound enrichment.

That's the thing those Michael... I don't think my level has increased... I've just become more aware of it! Or at least it's more intrusive now.

I still put this down to anxiety.

I will make an appointment was in a audiologist however

I used to have that when my reactive tinnitus kicked in. I know many people will say there is no such thing, but for me it was. Maybe its a milde form of hyperacusis u are experiencing.
Maybe. When I first got my tea I noticed that a lot of sounds had a tinny sound to them such as laughter on a comedy show, or an app on my phone that was constant, or even the shower.

That quickly went away. As did me noticing in my tinnitus for 2 years

I'm sure this will resolve in a few weeks as well

All sound machines the volume can be adjusted. Oasis sound machines are the best in my opinion. They are specifically make for people with tinnitus. Models S-650 is popular and can also be connected to a pillow speaker for privacy.

I think I've asked you this once before but I cannot remember the answer. What is the big difference between a real sound machine and using white noise form an app?

I think it's a personal preference, maybe based on technology comfort level. Every audiologist I speak with recommends online apps and a good Bluetooth speaker versus a sound machine. Apps offer a variety of sound options and will allow customization, sound machines do not. Though I supposed you can purchase more sound cards.

I tried multiple apps before I found the sound I like best. I would have hated to have bought an expensive sound machine and had a limited selection.

I also like that I can move the Bluetooth speaker easily throughout my home versus a sound machine. When traveling, I simply use my phone speaker so it is easier then too.

@Raphael7713

If you are going to use an App and use your mobile phone then the quality will not be good enough or supply good sound enrichment. You are better off buying an Oasis sound machine. I have 3 models. You get what you pay for in life. Oasis S-5000 is the top model and 140 different sound combinations can be generated and doesn't need sound cards. It comes with a host of features including a radio. It is a 3 speaker system having a sub woofer. The S-650 is popular and portable. It comes with two sound cards. S-850 travel, is smaller around 4inch x 6inch. Doesn't need sound cards as it has 18 built-in digital sounds. It has a blue light that can be dimmed but not completely turned off.

It is up to you. Plugging your phone into a docking station or using a blue tooth speaker with an App will also work. I just prefer Sound Oasis sound machines.
