Who Here Owns Cats?

My little man Casper. Loves his cat milk, under the chin rubs and goes crazy for his catnip treats. Most likely to be found sleeping. It's a hard life being a cat :p

Them cats are better known as lazy bums. Although around here Groucho is out hunting mickey mices. Unless it's raining, then she may be found doing this.

My Boo Boo is 11 years old and was diagnosed with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy during the past year. He is on medication. At his last echocardiogram, they could no longer hear a heart murmur and the obstruction (a valve being pulled into the blood flow) was no longer evident. His heart enzymes are still high, but the cardiologist does not seem concerned about that. The closest cardiologist is an hour and a half away from me and we were there 3 times last year. A new office (same company) opened up at the beginning of last year and is supposed to have a cardiologist there by spring. It is only 50 minutes away from me.

Does anyone else have a cat with heart issues?

Geeez, that's a first for me about a cat having heart problems. Hope all is well.

Out and about in the snow and stalking the blackbirds before he realised he likes the fire a lot better and then shot back inside :)

I had to take my tuxedo cat Alfie to the vet recently as he refused to eat any food for 3 days which had me worried, as he's normally quite a ravenous eater. Externally the vet could find nothing wrong as he appeared to be healthy. Nevertheless, she said a cat not eating for two days or more is concerning and suggested blood tests. She gave him two injections and prescribed some medication last Friday, consisting of tablets and a liquid substance to be administered through a syringe and onto his food. However, he still refused to eat over the weekend.

Fortunately, the blood results ruled out certain underlying health problems. This got my vet thinking and saying this is very strange. Since Alfie hadn't eaten or drank for quite some time, she decided to inject him with fluids to keep him hydrated and gave him two more injections. She placed some recovery food into his mouth via a syringe. It is high in calories, something similar to an energy drink that a person might take to boost energy.

When I got him home on Monday, to my relief he ate a small mount of food. On Tuesday he ate a little more but still not back to eating with gusto. Wednesday morning the vet telephoned to find out if Alfie was making any progress. I was pleased to relay the good news, that he seemed to be turning a corner and was eating the food with the medication added to it.

Wednesday night and this morning, he appears to be back to his normal self and is readily eating his food. I am still adding medication to his food as he may not be out of the woods yet. I am feeling much happier.

@Michael Leigh, scenic view you have in the background.
Thank you @just1morething. I live on the outskirts of Brighton, on a hill that is overlooking a villiage known as Patcham. The view in distance is called the south downs. They are a range of chalk hills that spreads right along the south coast of England.

You know what cats are like - he's probably found some charitable tuna donator round the corner.

You could be right but I didn't want to take any chances.
It really is true. Cats don't have owners, only servants (mine does anyway)
Both my cats think they own my home. They like to relax on my sofa, just when I am ready to settle down and listen to music on my Hi-Fi.

@Michael Leigh, how's Alfie doing, is he back to full cat? And how are you?

Hi @Elmer B Fuddled,

I missed the alert message from you. Thanks for asking about Alfie who seems to be back to his usual self. Eating everything that is offered to him which is pleasing to see. He likes a combination of dry and wet food now but they have be placed in separate feeding bowls. It's laughable at times to see him switch from one bowl to the other so seamlessly, unlike his sister Polly, that will only eat dry food and likes to graze on it throughout the day.

Alfie is quite different and prefers not to return to his feeding bowls so often and likes his meals at set times. You may remember, one evening I was listening to my Hi-Fi and forgot to share out his food. He came into my listening room and strolled up to one of the speaker stands, then jumped up and sat on top of the speaker with his claws hovering dangerously close to the tweeter. It would be expensive to replace as the speaker box would need to be returned to ProAc. I got the message and quickly got up and left the room with Alfie following close behind me.

I am keeping well and thanks for asking. I am waiting for the weather to improve as it's quite cold at the moment on the south coast. I need to do some gardening work and thinking about decorating a couple rooms as I painted the outside of my Bungalow last year. Unfortunately the seagulls have deposited some of their waste, that was blown onto a couple of walls by the wind, so will have to get up a ladder and wash it off and may touch-up with paint. This can be a nuisance when living on the coast, my car also gets targeted at times but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Hope you are keeping well.

Take care,
Michael

Alfie is absolutely gorgeous. I love that beard. It's interesting he has a beard, ours has a mustache. I understand the bird bombing. It seems every time I wash the car, the crows use it for target practice.

Good you are well. I've been blessed with 4 days of silence; at least it's bearable.

Take care and hug them cats,
Elmer

Thank you @Elmer B Fuddled, I think your cat Groucho is gorgeous too. Cats look so peaceful when asleep, many people would be forgiven for thinking they wouldn't hurt a fly when looking so serene, or suspect their whole demeanour could change instantly if they happen to spot a mouse or bird they can quickly pounce on.

Polly and Alfie are formidable hunters. Things have been quiet around the home during the winter months and thankfully, I haven't heard any commotions during the night from the two of them, only to arrive downstairs in the morning and see a dead mouse or bird lying on the floor, that has been brought through the catflap and terrorized to death, until its limbs have been torn apart from its body. I am sure this is natural behaviour for the cats and they believe they're doing nothing wrong, but it's not pleasant to see.

I fear things will soon change as the first signs of spring begins to emerge and outside starts warming up. I know they'll be in the garden working in pairs in serious attack mode, looking out for any unfortunate prey that happens come into their line of vision.

How correct you are. Groucho is in hibernation mode as she knows there's no mice present on her hunting grounds. Not much into bird hunting. I think she realizes birds are too quick to escape, although she did get two last summer but I think she may have attacked a nest. I find mice lying on the step into the wood shop or on the picnic table. Oh well, that's cats, so unpredictable.

Take care of yourself,
Elmer Bfuddled
