Who Here Owns Cats?

My cat Mason..

Guy in my apartment building's cat just gave birth to the cutest litter I've ever seen in my life... AND I WANT ONE. ⊙__⊙

What I'd like to know though, is how you all mitigate the hygiene issue posed by a cat?

Specifically the fact that they walk and sit around on the floor (and in a litter tray) and then like to jump and climb on every and any surface they can reach/balance on.

Pre-tinnitus, I had no problem with this, but post-tinnitus, I like to have (some) sterile surfaces in my apartment.

For example, I have one desk in my bedroom dedicated to the purpose of cleaning and drying my silicon earmoulds, fully equipped with: kitchen towel, wash bowl, drying plate etc. (anyone else do/have anything like this?)

Obviously maintaining the cleanliness of that is going to be an obstacle.

I think what my hesitancy to adopt one might boil down to, is my proneness to ear infections (and frequent suffering of them in the past when using earplugs). I suppose if you're not a heavy earplug user, or not really susceptible to ear infections, then this whole dilemma might seem quite absurd.

Any thoughts are welcome.

I have a cat. They jump on tables and I can see that being a problem, in case the pathogens get on your ear plugs. Maybe consider getting a wall mounted cabinet for all things ear plugs so the cat can't jump on it?

I don't think it will be that big of an issue. You'll probably figure it out. So I'd say; GET IT.

I always had cats :)

Unfortunately my 6 month old cat ran away from home and has never returned since last week.

She was very clean, she always went to the sandbox. She was always playing and running and was very hyperactive, at night she was quiet and she never woke me up, she slept on my feet.

My cat loved to pick up foam earplugs and started playing with them.

We have two cats (Zoe and Zack); when we were engaged 31 years ago my wife notified me that it was a precondition that we would always have cats.

We have a tortoiseshell tabby and an orange tabby.

Did you know that a cat's hearing is so receptive that it can hear a mouse putting it's foot down on a blade of grass from 50 feet away?

With such receptivity, they must have a massive ability to filter out such wide ranging levels of sound that are not necessary for survival.

Humans also have this; in Michael Herr's "Dispatches"(about Vietnam), he said that an Army Ranger could sleep right next to a loud generator, but would be instantly awake if there was a rustling sound in the jungle 100 feet away from him.

I interviewed my cats, and they were not aware of tinnitus.

I especially wanted to hear from you @Stacken77, as I've never forgotten this post:

Knew you had some good experience with (generally unfriendly) cats. (ᗒᗜᗕ)՛̵̖
Hahah, yeah well, it's true. I love my cat, whose name's Trisse btw, very much, but how much he loves me back is questionable. I think he's a little aggressive, partly because we took him too early from his mother (which probably messed him up a little), and partly because I never know when to stop giving hugs and kisses lol, so I get my fair share of scratches.

So here's my advice; a) don't take the cat too early, and b) try to understand the limits if you want to give your cat hugs and kisses.

2 cats here. A British Short Hair female (Luna) and a Siberian male (Thunder). Cats are strange aloof creatures. The female hates everyone but my wife. The male loves everyone but doesn't interact with us much. One thing is consistent - they hate each other.

Poor bastard @Stacken77 :D

Here's Trisse, he's a farm cat. Walks in and out whenever he wants. Doesn't like too much hugs and kisses.

Seriously, my pathetic owner needs to get laid!"
If you only could "get laid" with severely reactive tinnitus... :D

Would probably get a prolonged spike from all the noises...
Have to wear earplugs your first couple of times with a new girlfriend, just until you know what she's capable of...

My cat Googey is either hiding under the duvet or lying on top of people. Here he is looking like Yoda. He's a Devon Rex. 8 years old.

A cat is never satisfied @Elmer B Fuddled.

My cats are eating me out of house and home. They both have a dedicated water fountain and are incredibly fussy eaters.
Welcome to cat world. We buy expensive wet cat food along with dry food. She first turned her nose up to the expensive wet food, strange, but a month later she has no problem eating it. It's got me confused Michael.

As for water, fresh every morning, but she has to splash it all over.

Well said Elmer.

Take care,
Michael
