Cause of Tinnitus
High frequency hearing loss and lifetime noise exposure
For many many years before tinnitus I had allergy problems and have extensively used antihistamines for years and years. Sometimes I think they cause spikes but sometimes I feel like they calm them.

Anybody have any similar experiences with antihistamines?

I take fexofenadine all year round for allergies to help reduce the extra moucus in my tubes .
Love glynis

Yes, I have had the same thing happen to me. One day it seems like they decrease them and the next day it can make weirder sounds when I wake up. Does your tinnitus change upon waking up or does it happen throughout the day?

I'm usually the loudest when I first wake up. I have had to use antihistamines for years. I used to think they might have contributed to my tinnitus but lately I'm thinking they might provide some relief. I honestly don't know.

Do you take them right before bed or several hours before bed?

Lately I've been taking them about every second or third day as needed. Usually right before bed. I've experimented with taking Benadryl at night to help me sleep but usually take Zyrtec.

Benadryl supposedly has around a 2.3 hour time to peak plasma. Perhaps take it and wait 2 and half hours to 3 hours before you go to bed (to be honest I'm not sure the exact time that would be optimum if this works). Lots of neurons such as H1 receptors fire while sleeping and perhaps the more that are blocked before you fall asleep the less tinnitus you will have when you wake up. It's the only theory I have at the moment. If does or doesn't work please report back.

P.S. - Don't take more than the recommended dosage.
