Why Does Tinnitus Bother Us So Much??

@GregCA thanks for describing your sounds. I actually have a hygenist cleaning on Friday so i will be able to compare what you describe.

Search this forum for the keyword "ultrasonic". You will find many horror stories. Some people's T began after ultrasonic dental cleaning, others had their T permanently spike after it.

It should be easy to find a dental hygenist who would clean your teeth manually. If I were you, I would walk out if my hygenist were to insist on using that ultrasonic tool.

I've had this procedure done about 6 times in the past 2 years no problems.

It takes like, ten minutes to do and I don't find it uncomfortable previously.
According to the posters who have horror stories to tell about that ultrasonic cleaning, all it takes is one wrong move by your hygenist and you will be regretting not having your cleaning done manually for the rest of your life...

There have also been people on this forum who have had no troubles with it. There are many risks in life.

It is true that there are many risks in life. One takes risks when one either has no choice but to take the risk, or when there is an upside to the risk. In this case, there is a downside (lifetime of louder T) and no upside and you can easily get rid of the downside by asking them to do it manually. What is there to think about?

Should i also go back in time 6 times and ask them to do it manually?

* We can't switch it off.
* We can't run away from it.
* We can't enjoy silence anymore.
* We don't know if it's going to get louder.
* We don't have a clear list of do's and don'ts.
* We're pissed there's no good treatment for it.
* We suffer from other symptoms that go with T.
And if I may add: We are rarely taken seriously by the Medical profession..

Thanks for scaring me about tooth cleaning. I asked for manual and she was very understanding. Didn't seem to take much longer than with the ultrasonic tool either.
Thank you for your kind words, Sam. Doing it manually produces the same result, without the risk. And the risk seems to be there - it is easy to find horror stories on this site...

Yeah I have to admit i was getting a bit worried about it after seeing those horror stories, while I was waiting i was thinking if she says no to doing it manual then i would refuse and leave despite losing money. I guess this is the good thing about sites like this, although they can induce a bit of paranoia they can help you to minimize risk.

I was expecting her to give me a strange look and say huh? But she seemed fine with it, I assume she has had similar requests before. She also said it makes sense as to why I always said no to using an electric brush in the past.

My T was Caused by a sonic toothbrush. (Although it wasn't caused by me using it the way it was supposed to be used.)

Actually, my hygenist had always been cleaning my teeth manually. She never offered to use the ultrasonic tool.

It's a sound that's always present and no one else can hear. I think the reason why I experienced so much fear and anxiety when I first realized I had T and it was very faint, was because I was afraid it was going to get louder. If it had stayed at a low level, and I had assurance it would never increase, I may be able to tolerate it better.
