I've always had some form of mild tinnitus, at least as far as I can remember. But about two weeks ago I develped some sort of mild viral infection that seems to have made my "constant" tinnitus tone more shrill, loud, and high pitched. After about two weeks this has thankfully settled down to a more tolerable level. It was accompanied by some ear pain twinges (way past ear drum) and some other cold symptoms. But during the infection, I developed a new, less loud, slightly lower pitched ringing (maybe at 5Khz instead of 11Khz?) that is also always there BUT is FADING IN AND OUT constantly! By this I mean every 1 or 2 seconds. This makes it worse that my "constant" ringing because its much harder to ignore. Has anyone else had this?! Has it gone away or stabilized to be replaced by your constant higher pitched T only? I may have had a mild viral labyryinthitis since I also had some mild dizziness. This constant fading in and out makes it very difficult for me to sleep.
I'm really hoping it will go away after awhile and this infection has not caused permanent damage.
