Tinnitus Since
02/2016
hey guys now im kinda desperate, its so difficult to habituate like this, i have had t for 5 months.
and it fluctuates a lot!!
past 3 weeks it has been super quiet and low that i almost habituate to that level lets say 1 out of 10.
but right now ive been having days where inwould rateit as 4 and right now i woke up with 8 or 9.
so hight pitched and soo loud and out there, whats going on?
since last thurdays it has spike, i thought it was something i ate or because i smelled a cigarrete, but that couldnt last 5 days!? the only thing that comes to mind that could have made it worse... is that i heard a train whistle on saturday but it was like 2 blocks away, and it lasted like 4 seconds.

but oh well sorry about worrying too much, its just that these past days i have experience the lowest and the loudes with no apparent trigger.

anyone have it like that?
will it return to baseline?

This tinnitus has been said, by many, to just do what it wishes! Frustrating, but I've noticed this too. My thought trick for this (re: hard to habituate like this) is to go it one thought further, and remind myself , on a bad day/series of days, that many good days DID exist and that they will return again! (Though it's human to feel disappointment when a bad day or two or three return!!!).

I'm gonna guess that it had nothing to do with the smoke or the distant train. I'm also gonna guess that it returns to baseline. Relaxing the body is helpful in any event, so even if it feels like there's nothing specific that affects the tinnitus, it'll still send a message to your self that you're in charge, if you decide to go for a good walk, or exercise, or do anything pleasurable and relaxing to increase your overall state of well-being. <3

I have the same. Some days my T is zo soft i almost dont hear it in silence. But I have also days that i can hear it all day long over everything. Vere strange. I hate it but i try not to listen for it, its difficult.

Thanks PathMaker!! for your words, i relaxed my body and did some breath in, breath out, excersice and it calm down from a 8 to a 4, maybe it was super loud for the "awakening response" i dont know.
im afraid that i have made more damage with that train whistle because it was loud, and i didnt even cover my ears... but it was just a few seconds.
also i heard other awful noises at the mall yesterday.

but in gonna try to do everything you advice me, thanks :)))

Yes thats my T, lol.
for how long have you have it? and whats is the cause?

Hey Mario

Just one piece of advice, if you can quit smoking, it would be better for you.
It's not good for the ears and T. And health in general :).

Take care, your T will settle down.

I have no idea why some days are more fine than others with this, with seemingly no explanation. It makes me think of other body conditions like arthritis and MS and stuff which can be marked by exacerbations and remissions. I often wonder whether underlying and subtle inflammatory and immune responses are at work, on any given day, and whether subtle triggers get them going.

Hey Sara!
Thank you for your reply.

but all my friends do.

and my t "spiked" after a night at a friends house and they were smoking and all windows were closed!

I had a doubt, lol.

As a non-smoker, I know the deal. And it's worse for a non-smoker to inhale all that smoke than a smoker (because then, they exhale it). It's like you're smoking with them (little warning like I would have loved I've been warned about the danger about noise exposure :)).
If it happens again, open the window, and breathe some fresh air while others are smoking ;-)

Mario, there are a few reasons I could say why the ringing you hear does that. I think "Tinnitus" and "Emotions" need to be looked at much more closely. A study lead by Prof. Fatima Husain of the University of Illinois' Speech & Hearing science, showed through fmri scans that the brains of those who experience this ringing sensation process emotions differently than those without it. Emotions are chemicals in our brain. So anything that involves the intake of the chemical neurotransmitters that play a role in ones "mood", then it will have an affect on the ringing you hear. Something that once allowed you to feel "emotions" has been damaged. Our auditory system allows in a lot of information if working in a specific way. The more chemicals that influence things like alertness, your mood, learning, involved in such a process, the more you'll be able to remember such an occurrence and the more information you'll gain from it. Our sense of hearing is so important for our brain in development and as it continues to grow and build its neuronal networks everyday. Hearing is more than just being able to pick up sounds. It's the "emotions" involved with it that are very important for our brain. And that "emotional ability" is what I believe is damaged without a trace until one develops a continuous ringing. It's why it's so bothersome and why people think it's causing so much stress for them. It's because that was what allowed them to not be so "stressed out" or "depressed" or "have anxiety" from this world. This world, nature, just being given a life is amazing in itself. Our brain will do whatever it can to allow you to not suffer. But it can only go so far.

Nick, this is very interesting, this is why some people might develop tinnitus and others dont.
to be honests its kinda funny, cause ive always been the kind of person that would hide my emotions...
i always try to play it cool.. and dont give in into sadness, grief etc...
since my mothers death (10 years ago) i havent been able to process that lose like my sisters and dad did.
sometimes i feel like iam a robot with no feelings, but in my dreams i seem to suffer...
i dont know, maybe there is a connection after all, sorry about the rambling lol.

Do you remember everything you experience in your dreams?

Today I'm having a BAD T day, its louder than other days... BUT, my overall day is good... it took me alot of time, but I learned to separate my Tinnitus from my Feelings. When Tinnitus is loud, is just as bad as when I have a headache, it is just there, but I keep doing my business. Hope you feel better soon.

And no, I don't think that train could affected you, I hear train very often, I live near a railway.

Regards!

Thank you johnny i appreciate you reply!
does your T fluctuates too??
ill try to do the same, separate my emotions vs the sound :)
thanks for the advice man.

Yes thats my T, lol.

I have it for 27 months now. I think it comes from damages. I got it after a run and vacuum cleaning. But it can also be stress. But i also have TMJ. I can make the sound less by pressing my jaw down. I hear hissing sound and in silent i hear a different sound but then its in my whole head. Feel pressure in my ears and somethimes i feel the air pressure change in my ears.

You need be a savage when it comes to life now... like for me when my friend plays music I give him the two choices. It's either me or the music lol now if they not willing drop it than you know you got bad kind of people to be friends with.

It fluctuates a lot for me also. The "intensity" of the sound fluctuates, as well as the types of sounds. Exactly one week ago, I was staying in a hotel room and the only sound in the room was a very quiet A/C unit, but I was not particularly bothered by tinnitus. It was there, but I didn't care. Today it's more persistent, even with a fan on high I'm hearing/noticing it.

I really haven't found anything that strongly correlates to these fluctuations. A week ago I was at a conference, drinking with colleagues afterward, not having the best sleep hygiene or diet, and with several flights to & from, but my head was fairly quiet the whole time. Or, at least, it wasn't bothering me. After a week of being back home and living a little healthier, I get what seems to be a spike. Go figure.

For me it's the same. I varies from 'no problem & no urge to visit TT' to 'big problem' in a more or less weekly cycle and no clue why.

I'm very carefully checking emotional reasons as it might be just a focus thing. But it my opinion it can not explain it.

Also food and noise doesn't seem to trigger it.

Only thing I have still in mind besides beeing totally by random is it might be kind of chronic inflammation in the ear.

Anyway, as my visit on TT indicates,
now its bad again and I can hardly imagine how I was able to tell my girlfriend last week after having sex and laying in the silence that my T is so mild I almost don't care at all.

Actually only coherences with my T level I've found out yet are
sex & alcohol.
Both improving T a little bit for a while.

...if it just was for rock&roll as well!
