Hi All,

My wife just died suddenly. My stress and tinnitus have spiked incredibly. Any advice for how to try to stay on top of things? Anyone face anything similar? How long before the tinnitus might start to ease up a little?

Peter

My condolences to you and your family. I don't have any magic advice to keep stress low. Personally I do some light meditation when I feel stress if getting to me.

I am really sorry to hear about your wife. I wish you all the best in this hard time. My condolences.

Seeing that this tinnitus spike is being brought on during a very stressful time, I would assume as the stress fades so will the tinnitus. Take comfort in the fact that this spike will not be permanent. Try to relax as much as you can.

It hard to tell how soon and quickly it will fade. I would just give it time.

I am so sorry to read this. Losing a loved one is horrible and tinnitus on top does not help. It is only natural that your tinnitus should spike a lot at this time when grief is acute. Surely it's likely it will calm down over time. It is not quite the same but my tinnitus did spike a lot when my close friend died last year. It did go back down.

I am very sorry for your loss. I just wanted to share that my tinnitus doesn't spike when I experience the normal stresses of life, but when I have had big, sudden shocks it does spike - but for me it goes down quite quickly. I really hope it is the same for you. If you had a really enormous shock your adrenal system was probably affected as well, and I think all of this can have an impact on tinnitus.

Sorry for your loss, hope you have support around you.
I use online guided tinnitus meditation to help the anxiety. Look up breathing techniques too.
Maybe speak to a therapist? It's bound to be an awful time.
