Will Aspirin Make Tinnitus Worse?

Will one asprin daily 81 mg baby asprin have a affect on making your tinnitus worse. What do you think about this? Does asprin make it worse or does it not affect it at all since it is a low dose.

Baby aspirin doesn't seem to affect my tinnitus, but I have read elsewhere that aspirin can cause ringing to get worse for some people. However, the effect seems to be reversible. So, if you decide to take it and it causes a problem, you can stop it, and any additional ringing should subside. That's what I've heard, anyway.

Would like to hear whether others have had any bad experiences with aspirin.

Yes, Karen is correct. Any possible tinnitus from Aspirin/Ibuprofen/Acetaminophen is reversible once stopped especially in lower doses. 81mg is pretty low.

I agree with others, aspirin-induced tinnitus is rare and generally considered to be reversible. If taken at low doses, I think you have nothing to worry about. Do you have to use aspirin for pain relief? When I was sick two weeks ago I had no choice but to take something to kill fever and after some research I noticed that paracetamole has much better safety profile when it comes to tinnitus than ibuprofen, for example. I used 500 mg twice a day for a week and it didn't make my tinnitus worse.

Mike, paracetamole is the same thing as acetomenophin (Tylenol) in the U.S.

I'd try turmeric for head-aches and pains.

Well, as for aspirin making T worse, all I can say is that it happens to me and to almost everyone I know who suffers from T. Asprin chemical composition is essentially acetylsalicylic acid which is definitely an ototoxic drug. I agree that many T sufferers may not notice any significant change in their T when taking aspirin or any other medication containing acetylsalicylic acid however, I can assure you it is undoubtedly harmful to most people even when taken in low doses. The same happens with Indapamide, a diuretic used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure. It is an ototoxic medicine that can seriously harm your cochlea and cause hearing loss but don't expect your doctor tell you about it. These side effects are also considered reversible as soon as you stop taking the medicine.
