Will There Ever Be a Cure or Treatment for People Who Have Had Tinnitus for Years?

I see all these new treatments or cures coming out like AM-101 and Aut000063. But what I've noticed is that they only help people who've had tinnitus for months. That kind of sucks doesn't it? What about people who've had it for years. Not exactly fair. I'm worried because by the time these treatments come out, which I suspect will be around 2017 at least maybe 2018, I would have tinnitus for 2-3 years and these medicines would probably be useless for me. I would like to take part of the AM-101 clinic trial but unfortunately I don't turn 18 till early December.

Hi guys, I'm 4 months myself. It's hell, I know it is. Looking at people's stories here, I get a feeling that we'll be just fine in the long run.

Having said that, I've also been on the "looking for a cure" thing. Having a background in business and doing some research, I was very sad that the major Pharma companies don't seem to invest big on hearing problems. Looks like there's a "good enough" solution with hearing aids, and the market is elsewhere.

There are, nonetheless, some smaller companies doing important stuff. If you look around this forum you'll notice 3 of them offer some hope. Most important, let's say that only one product in development goes to the market in the next 3-5 years. Even if it's for acute T, even if it's not good enough. You know what will happen? There will be a market for Tinnitus drugs. Maybe someone will look at that and decide it's worth to invest in something new. Maybe in some time hearing drugs will be a "thing", and we'll have more and better news ahead of us.

What I find difficult to deal is the concept of a "cure". I was talking to a doctor friend some time ago and he told me that the notion of a "cure" is strange in medicine. Very few thing have 100% cures. What you got are treatment options, ways to deal with problems, so you can get to a satisfactory result.

Let me give you an example: I have dealt with Rhinitis and sinusitis all my life. The medicines I took as a kid gave me a lot of side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, etc. I've been getting better. I remember once I stayed some 3 or 4 years symptom free, and when I went to the doctor I was surprised by some new medicine. Less side effects, much better. Still not a cure, but I was happier nonetheless.

So, what I think makes most of us frustrated is that there isn't much in the way of pharmacological options. Maybe in five years there will be some. Maybe in ten years we'll have more and better drugs. And so on... Will there be total 100% cure? Is there such thing for the Flu? Will there be? No one knows. What we can say is that things will evolve. Maybe we can help, like raising money for research, supporting each other in a forum like this, I don't know... What I do know is that thinking "I will never be cured" led me to some very dark thoughts, and I rather stay positive.

I conclusion, I think yes, better treatments are on the way. I'm new to all this T thing, but as soon as I get my mind back together again, I plan on helping us getting there. I haven't got the faintest idea how I'll help, but I do want to do my part. Maybe with we all think and collaborate together, we'll be closer to something better than what we got today. Wouldn't it be great? :)

When a possible treatment comes, I'll be two years in. Will there any chance for me to get any benefit from these treatments?
