Woke Up at 2 am to a Very Loud Spike and I'm Scared

Heres what's funny about this post. I woke up at 4:30 this morning to a very loud spike too, which never happens inlaid there for an hour trying to sleep and I couldnt. I finally started to fall back asleep it everytime I was about to zonked out my (very rotten) dog started letting out these loud groans/whines and tapping her claws on the floor and that successfully stopped me from falling back asleep, finally my spike subsided, I couldnt even hear my tinnitus really, and alarm goes off time to wake up and go to work.

@Sam Bridge
Same thing happens to me with the spikes
when waking.
Scares the daylight out of me when it happens.
Hadn't had a bad one for ages, then last week it happened two nights in a row.
Had to reach for the clonaz as it stresses me out!
I feel like I need to go back to sleep to 'reset' the tinnitus.
I've never tested it and stayed awake, but sometimes after 2-3 hours of not being able to go back to sleep it's still blasting. Based on this I need to get back to sleep to get my baseline sound back.
Seems common for these nighttime spikes... has to be related to the sleep cycle in some way.

Things can improve.

5 years on (hope im not jinxing myself) and my spikes have improved dramatically.

I have received stem cells last year.

I think enough time has transpired now to say fairly confidently that my reactivity has improved, one of my noises has completely disappeared, and my spikes have calmed down. How much this is due to the natural course of my tinnitus is beyond me, but I was having regular spikes for 4 years. It seems more likely to be due to the stems.

Hello,

I have had tinnitus for one month. I have read a few books and am working on daily meditation, diet change etc. Of course sleeping is a challenge but I have had success by using a masking app as I fall asleep.

Last night I fell asleep okay but woke up at 2:00am to very loud tinnitus. Much louder than I have experienced so far. It calmed down in about 2 hours and I was able to go back to sleep.

Was back at baseline this morning. Of course I am very apprehensive about going to sleep tonight.

All POSITIVE words of advise are very welcome and appreciated. Bless us all.
That has happened to me in the past too. When my tinnitus was new I took a supplement (Turmeric) that was supposed to help my tinnitus, and it woke me up in the middle of the night with the loudest tinnitus I ever had.

Your tinnitus is very new and will take many more months to fade. I had a bad acoustic trauma just over 2 years ago, and my tinnitus is over 90% faded. It has actually had noticeable fading in just the past couple months, and continues to fade. Sometime tinnitus can take years to fade, and other times it can fade over a couple months.
I think you will be just fine in time
