There's a job opening at the library but I don't know if I can handle working in a quiet environment with my tinnitus. I'm considering it because it's better pay, better hours, and less physically demanding than my other job. Any of you work in a quiet place? How is your experience? Thanks.

Hi,

Depending upon the severity and how much your typical environment currently masks your tinnitus, it could require some adjusting to. I moved to a quieter apartment and noticed my tinnitus more at first. However, I "rehabituated" over time. Habituation can sometimes be a moving target, especially if you change environments. If you have gotten there before, it will be easier to get there again when your environment changes. I say go for it!

Wow. Consider yourself very lucky to get such a position! I would take it without a second thought. With tinnitus just walking around in public listening to just normal everyday sounds is daunting. Go for it and enjoy the serene calm comfort that your ears deserve!

It's the opposite for me. Noisier places masks my tinnitus. When it's really quiet, I hear the high pitched EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Does sound machine with white noise help? Have you tried that?

I know. I'm going thru the same thing. But I do think the quiet environment will help your ears heal, give it a try. You may find that keeping busy helping people in the library will take your mind off your troubles.

Could you wear headphones or hearing aids to mask with, maybe with the Tinnitus Mix? See if they care, as long as you can do your job?

You can always apparate yourself with audioprothesis that also mask tinnitus. Or buy earplug and put some music at low level.
