Worsening Tinnitus Scaring Me

@Fangen I'm just worried in general that the T will get worse in my other ear. ;-; What can I do to stop that from happening?
Nothing. But you got to understand that tinnitus does fluctuate in volume, it can get worse and then better again. My tinnitus fluctuates during the day and also between days. When it's loud I am slightly annoyed but I know that it will improve so I don't really care that much.

Does everyone's T fluctuate like that?

My T was really loud when I first got it. After about 1 month it got quieter. I played basket ball at the same time and had practice 3 times a week this maybe a reason why my ears never healed.
I am sure that after few weeks your T will get much quieter. Take care of yourself and try not to expose yourself to loud sounds. :)

Thing is I didn't have T in the beginning of my hearing loss.

It can go away or it can diminish to the extent where its just annoying. Just don't get exposed to loud noise in the recovery process or you will slow it down.

How long do you suppose the recovery process is? 6months to a year? Or is it less than that. What information have you hear about the recovery process?

Use plugs at loud places, like packed resturants and such. Always carry plugs with you just in case. Avoid clubs or concerts, too loud and would tire your ears out. Eat, rest and try not to be anxious. Just be smart with protection but beside that it is only so much you can do. None of us want to have worsen T, if you protect your ears when you can and should, its about as much as we can do :) rest is up to life!

I'm just afraid of having more loud noise exposure because my family is kinda loud and not understanding at all. I have dogs and they are very loud.

Many people on this site seem to experience improvement between 2 and 6 months in. I remember several people reporting recovering after 1-2 years.

You can try protecting your ears from moderate noises like that of a hair dryer and vacuum cleaner...

I am new here so I am also learning. It depends somewhere from 6-18-24 months, it can diminish or go away I think.

Certain members of my family are loud and not very understanding either... I've asked several times but some people don't seem to get it. I've just resorted to wearing noise-cancelling headphones around this person (who I love) which don't make much of a difference but make people talking in loud, shrill voices sound less piercing. When my hyperacusis was very bad, I couldn't even be around them.

My T was an after effect. I didn't have onset T (at least loud enough for me to notice nearly at all) after I lost some hearing. I'm also afraid of going outside and doing things like showering because of the noise. Thinking it might damage my ears or make my T worse.

Like right now I'm outside I went into Panera and it was quite busy so I ate outside. But now my hearing isn't as great in one ear. Like I may be imagining it but I swear it's getting worse.

Hi @Taylorslay

Everyone experiences tinnitus differently. @Bill Bauer is correct in that many people recover quickly. The best thing you can do at this point is to try and remain positive.

@billie48 wrote his success story demonstrating how positivity helped him habituate.

@Michael Leigh (who's other posts have already ben recommended to you) wrote the following, excellent post on the importance of positivity:

and the following on negativity and tinnitus

You will get through this. Your tinnitus is still quite new. I know that it feels like an eternity, but you will get through this. It will either clear up or you will learn to habituate.

Hang in there, it will get easier and it will get better.
