Hi there, I'm sorry if I kinda word myself poorly. But I'm someone who was pushed to make an account here today, and it seems like a great resource.

I'm a guy who's currently 19, having had tinnitus since September of 2018. Before then, I had no reason to know tinnitus existed. It happened one day, I was on my computer and this sudden, high pitched squealing appeared. Over time it just didn't fade...

Then in last August, I had several spikes, the last one never going down... my tinnitus grew louder, and since then it's been more violent.

Spikes happened more often, it got louder for bursts, and this one nasty thing...

At a point, I got a new low pitched tinnitus as well. This one lasted for a couple of weeks and it was terrible, almost impossible to drown out.

And now, I got sick recently and it came back. I'm scared, since it's almost impossible to ignore it now. Even though my hearing is fine it doesn't just get drowned out by noise now.

I'm hoping this time it goes down like the last. And I want to cling onto hope wherever I can.

Welcome to the forum. Spikes often return to baseline especially you stay calm and try live life normally. This will prevent invoking the limbic nerves responsible for fight or flight reactions which will amplify the ringing to alert you the existence of a threat. Try do deep breathing and relaxing activities or exercises to de-stress the anxiety level. Keep positive the spikes will fade. Good luck. God bless.

So, for context: My tinnitus began in September 2018. I was sitting on my PC, with no headphones on at that time. It just appeared.. and stayed.

It was that noise the whole time, the same high pitched ringing that I could drown out with sounds, and only rare spikes that lasted for mere seconds.

In last August however I got a series of migraines and/or spikes in my head. They kept bursting once or twice a day, then one day I had 3 in a row right after one another. After that, it never really went back down and I've been stuck with this higher, more violent tinnitus since. Since that happened, spikes happened far more often, some lasted minutes, one case an hour, and I've had much rougher situations. I've got a weird feeling where I get a loud low pitched one at times, or maybe just a middle pitch(?) and I also hear the louder higher pitched one. It's annoying, I can't find a way to effectively drown it out.

I don't think its from ear damage. I took a hearing test, and I could pick up 0Hz still, even with the Tinnitus being a distraction.

I don't know why... I don't feel like it's normal for mine to be this active. It spikes a ton, it flares, it sometimes pulses but remains constant, and this lower pitched sound has been terrible- its like its always there, and just ignores the sound going in. I've been really stressed and lost motivation for a lot of things... and I hate I don't know why this is happening to me.

I've had an MRI as well (I had ear plugs as well as headphones) and I never heard anything bad. We were told my results were normal too.

I still hope that, at the very least, it can go back down to before August... I wish I knew why I'm like this.

@Pali -- A lot of people have discovered how to control their migraines by controlling their diet. Have you tried anything along these lines? You may also be sensitive to EMFs; have you considered how much you're being exposed to them, and whether you should take any measures to reduce that exposure? -- Just a couple of thoughts...

Hmm... I dunno if its to do with my diet, I had a blood test and we heard of nothing- no vitamin deficiencies, or unhealthy stuff. And as for EMFs... that's... an interesting thought!

Sorry about the tinnitus, @Pali. I also have the low pitch variety and I can attest it is very difficult to tolerate it. I have had high pitched sounds before (they went away) but the low ones make my entire head vibrate essentially and I can't take it.

Are you better now?
