  • Should i avoid flying because of my ear issues? I have a flight in 7weeks
    NYCGuy
I just flight for over 12 hs and my sit was next to the engine, I was scared as hell but luckily I'm okay.
    tracyNYC
I flew recently. Used Earplanes, Peltor Optime III ear muffs, and paid extra for front-row first class seats. All good! My T is severe so I likely took more precautions than most.
This may sound like silly question. But is there a way of telling which ear t is coming from? Is there a home test?
    Rockman
    None that I know of.
    Rockman
    You could
try plugging one ear and see which one is louder
Did your muffled hearing ever resolve? The exact same thing happened to me and the muffled hearing and reactive T are making me unbearably anxious
    B
Yes it resolved, it was pretty scary going through that part.
    B
    What is reactive T?
Iam struggling right now with this T . I dont know how am i going to live like this. This sh*t is crazy. Somebody tell me something hopeful
    Steph1710
@Bry I went from 8/10 T to about a 1 or 2/10. So, there's so much hope for you yet. Focus on each day at a time. Force yourself to do things that you enjoyed before T (obviously with restriction - can't do anything too loud). What worked for me was just getting out & trying to live as "normally" as possible. It helped so much with my T anxiety. You'll be fine, just give it time. X

Thank you @Steph1710 why do you think it changed from 8 to 2?How long did that take to get lower?
When i first got my sudden acoustic trauma injury from loud slamming of metal on metal. There was no ringing. Any ideas why the onset later?
Do you still hear your tinnitus while wearing ear plugs, ear protection, etc.?
    Sentinel
Yes, although if I wear ear protection for a long time and take it off in quiet it seems much less noticeable to me
    Rockman
    Absolutely makes seem louder
    ThomasF
I hear it if I wear anything that either enclose or block my ears. I hear it in the bathroom unless the fan is going while I'm inside. I hear it if I don't have my tablet playing white noise under my pillow when I sleep. I hear it always.
Also for all that have habituated to their T. How would you describe it?Your habituation.
    Foamearplugssuck
for me, it was like a conscious decision to not let my T get in the way of living my life. like accepting that it may get worse, but choosing to have bad T over a half lived life. once I made that choice things got a little easier for me.
    LAnative
Habituation for me is I forget I have T until I am in a quiet setting then I can hear it loudly, and I almost immediately forget about it and continue doing whatever I was doing. It gets pushed to the way back of your conscious thoughts.
    Steph1710
@LAnative that's pretty much how I'd describe my habituation.
I am 3 months post sudden acoustic trauma.
    Steph1710
@Bry how are you getting on? Are you recovering okay?
    B
@Steph1710 doing better, thanks for asking. Struggling with the T tho triggers my anxiety. Cant wait to habituate. How are you? Does yours still go away when you lie down? Mines gets worse
    Steph1710
@Bry the anxiety will get better. The best thing you can do is just accept that the T is there. Me coming to terms with it, really helped my habituation. And no. Unfortunately my T is still there when I lay down now. It's changed so much over these 2 years. Massive *hugs* to you. It will get easier. I thought I'd never cope, but I managed to, so you will too, eventually. :)
If i say tightness of ear does that ring a bell for anybody? Is that the muscles in the ear contracting?
    B
Interesting,i feel if i solve the issue of the tightening so to speak feeling. I solve the tinnitus.
    makeyourownluck
I would be happy just to get rid of the physical sensation. My case is different though. I only have pressure in one ear, but tinnitus in both.
    M
Yes ! I also have a constant tight feeling in my ears. Its the muscles… now 9 months again (setback)

Weed and cbd are hit and miss. Some say weed hurts and some say cbd hurts too. Sometimes cbd helps t but I don't see many cases of weed helping cuz THC is bad for t often. YMMV.
    Does weed help?
    B
@Rockman hahaha heard mixed reviews too
    AfroSnowman
    For most no
    Tweedleman
I wish I could say yes, but no, in fact it actually spikes my T and/or makes it super noticable esp if you pay attention to it. That said, sometimes I get so blasted that my mind gets so onetracked that it forgets about the T, even though I can still hear it. If that makes any sense lol.
Part of my therapy will include cognitive behavioral therapy 6 times. Does anyone have any experience with this type of treatment?
Do you think researchers are working hard to find a cure for tinnitus?
    Jerad
Honestly, no. I think they're working at a moderate pace, but not hard, cuz hard would mean the funding is there. I think there's a small, devoted group of folks who really care abt curing these t and h problems, but bc the bigger medical and media communities don't get behind them, they lose their power.
    Jerad
If everyone was on the same page, we could have a cure or effective treatment much, much sooner. A lot of the treatment concepts are at a halt bc of no funding.
I understand now when i asked someone in the forum how they were doing and they said their condition is now livable.Im not quite like i was
How do you sleep with T?
    Wrfortiscue
Work on the anxiety first. Then time will help somewhat. Melatonin or nyquil too….
    Rockman
Melotonin Really worked well in the beginning. Than I just had to think of other things to distract. I have unmaskable head ringing
