They don't know man... I was told I have thyroid cancer or brain tumor (theory was that was causing tinnitus), after multiple MRIs, blood tests, and unnecessary ear tests which made tinnitus worse, it was finally concluded 2 years later that yes it was noise induced... took 2 damn years to... -

Mine took a year and a half to get better, still sometimes it can be loud and other times silence. -
