  • Ah... fucking car stereo fucked me up. Just turned fully up my buds which is around 105db. Not even close as loud as my car stereo... 1/2
People say that hissing is a "good" sign. I never had ringing just hissing. Is there a possibility it will improve?
    Vassili
Time will tell, man. I think hissing has to improve.
    Steph1710
Yeah, you gotta try and chill a little. We know it's distressing as fuck, but all this focusing on it and beating yourself up about it, isn't going to help. Try and distract yourself as much as you can. Yes I know it's hard. But try.
    Matchbox
most here would kill to have hissing.
Yes you'll improve in some fashion.
How common is moderate tinnitus? There os no way I'm the only idiot who blasted music and got T from it...
    GCS
@Steph1710 but I asked about moderate T. Not very very mild
    Steph1710
@GCS I was more trying to emphasise the fact that many people, regardless of how loud it is, have T.
    twa
@GCS the hard part is that we have very little information about loudness, types and duration of tinnitus. I think the hardest part of all that we experience with the auditory system is not knowing. I would say among people who have tinnitus, it is common.
This hissing is destroying me... ah man... why did I had to be emotional and turn up that f*ing volume in that car... both ears are hissing
    GCS
@Steph1710 don't really remember anymore. Probably some EDMs because I loved that BASS.
    Steph1710
@GCS well at least you damaged your ears to something you enjoy. Could have been worse - could have been some shit kind of music. And we all love the bass. I still listen to that bass, and my ears ring ring ring because of it!
    AnthonyMcDonald
    Wish I had hissing lol
My best friend got T 1 month after me. His T is louder and a terrible single tone. He doesn't give a sh*t from the start. Just wow...

    We are all different.
    Steph1710
We all cope in different ways. Don't beat yourself up for not dealing with it like he does. X
How can I get my productive side back with tinnitus? How can I make my mind wonder around? Any tips?
    Steph1710
Time is what it took for me to be able to concentrate on other things.

Can your tinnitus be at least partially masked? I bought a bluetooth speaker and I play crickets at low volume. It worked fine so far.
    GCS
@buttercake my T is masked by low/medium volume music. I'm going to buy a db meter to know how much noise is needed to mask my T.
For fuck sake, I was so unlucky. I just wanted to test out how loud can the car stereo be... how much db? 110db for 2 mins? Fuck...

@GCS Don't beat yourself up. When we've abused our ears, it doesn't take much to cause tinnitus. I was exposed to an 80dB compressor for 15 minutes, nothing out of the ordinary, but it was the straw that broke the camels back. It is a harsh reality, but we have to move forward.
    Bill Bauer
My problem was caused by an exposure that lasted a Fraction of a SECOND.
    SD7
Mine was seconds as well when I was attempting to mask a tinnitus that would have gone away anyway
I'm stopping to blame myself. I have never knew about tinnitus and that it can be caused by music. I was just listening to music...
    Steph1710
You can't blame yourself. It's not healthy. Plus, you deserve better. X
    T
It's a step we all need to take. No point in blaming ourselves for something we didn't know about.
Okay, I finally found how my tinnitus sound. Go on tiktok, search @okaywhateveryall and watch the 2nd video. Who has the same hissing?
    PortugalTheMan
I had this tinnitus, and it came out and it was just static after 4 months.
Tomorrow I'm going to take a 90db exam and maybe I'll destroy all my progress.
Do I have moderate tinnitus? I can hear it outside but moderate volume music or high volume tv 95% masks it.
    GCS
nah... tv doesn't mask it, I can still hear it clearly.
Overall good day today. Love my parents. They help a lot. I'm still sad that I caused this shitstorm but that's life...
    Christiaan
You'll get over that feeling of guilt @GCS. It happens to the best of us. The thing is that tinnitus will generally fade as time passes by. Just keep the faith;)
    Steph1710
@GCS you will overcome the guilt. I beat myself up about stuff for a long time. I had all the "what ifs". You'll learn to let go eventually, even if it doesn't feel like it right now. X
Static, hissing, sizzling. That is my tinnitus. Why I never had ringing? Usually people get ringing and then hissing.
Had a really bad day but not giving up. I will get my life fully back. I just need time
Why the f*ck did I had to test out how loud can the car stereo be? I tought it is nowhere near loud as in a club so I kept it blasting...
    Tau
Agree with Vassili - please cherish the fact that your hearing is fine! :) Hissing is likely to become quieter or go away completely, provided you don't experience any other acoustic traumas.
    M
Take solace in knowing many people have done alot worse than this and walked away fine. Just bad luck and not your fault per say. Just as you have prob gotten away with things unbeknownst to you, that others have woken up too and thought WTF.
    PortugalTheMan
I would prefer mine not to change from the start, because it was so much better.
One thing I learned is that what we have is bad, but it can be worse.
For a lot of people tinnitus change. For me it is constant hissing from the start. 2 and a half months. At least it is not pure tone ringing
    Vassili
I had my first small positive changes only after 8 months. Felt truly better after a year and still continue to improve even after 20 months. 2.5 months is nothing in tinnitus world, unfortunately.
    kingsfan
    Yep puretone sucks
Is hissing sound more pleasant than the ringing? I never had ringing just hissing from the start.
    M
I would say its the same volume as the ring which goes up and down. For me when I had (or get) tonal flickering ringing it was maddening and all the time just distracting. Obviously I don't like the hiss sound but I find my mind is prob 90% less drawn to it that the ringing. I have found the ringing has turned into a hiss almost with 10% of tone in it somewhere.
    Bill Bauer
Yes, hissing is orders of magnitude easier to bear than ringing. It means you haven't hurt your ears as much as many others on this forum. Within a year or two your T ought to fade.
    twa
Hissing or airplane engine noise to me sounds much better than the ringing. When I go days with the ringing, I become irritable.
Was working hard to have a great life after university. Only one trip in a car with loud music was needed to give myself tinnitus...
    Bill Bauer
Protect your ears from all of the noises that don't feel right, and eventually you will get to the "can hear it only in quiet rooms" stage.
    GCS
What is the possibility of getting there even after 2 and a half months of no change?
    Stacken77
@GCS There's a lot of testimonies of people beginning to improve after several months, so you could very well improve if you're careful. But even if it doesn't improve, and you're left with hissing that's very stable, you'll most certainly adapt to the noise and live a very fulfilling and productive life; I can assure you that.
