Progesterone and Progestin have been linked to hearing loss. Both birth control pills and hormone replacement therapies have been studied and shown hearing loss linked to both of these.

I’ve heard some doctors say the hair cells get bent/damaged but are not dead so overtime they can straighten themselves out. Not sure if that’s true or not.

I haven’t used a doctor prescribed gel. But I have used both niacinamide and azelaic acid topically with no problems.

For starters the Tinnitus Talk Podcast where they interview different people/companies doing research can help understand more about why tinnitus might be happening. Unfortunately there isn’t a conclusive answer for why or how tinnitus happens at the moment.

If you can’t open your Eustachian tubes at all or it’s very hard to, I would try using Afrin spray. Don’t use it longer than 7 days though.

I had SSNHL and it was at about day 7 that my hearing kind of snapped back and my tinnitus all of a sudden went from high pitch tone to a quieter static sound that stayed with me. My hearing went back into normal range but I was left with the static tinnitus.

I mean the VA considers tinnitus a disability. And according to federal law you have disability rights. The main thing would be to have a doctor get you a formal paper/ statement saying you have a disability.

When I was on Metformin it didn’t seem to impact my tinnitus at all. But everyone’s body is different.
