Successful Habituation to Tinnitus — It Is What It Is

Providing a brief update on my story: it has been 1.5 years since my original post and 5 years and 2 months since the onset of my tinnitus. I no longer do the one-ear trick. When did I stop doing this? I have no idea. I didn’t even remember that I used to do it. I guess that’s more concrete...

Successful Habituation to Tinnitus — It Is What It Is

Yes. Diary led to continuous hypothesis testing. But in the end none of the hypotheses held up. I basically concluded there are no triggers or if there are their impact is not consistent enough to be useful. The point is to focus on your life. Your brain will habituate but the process is slow...

Successful Habituation to Tinnitus — It Is What It Is

I have successfully habituated to tinnitus after almost 4 years. How do I know? The other day I was reading a newspaper, and the story mentioned tinnitus. I did not react to the word tinnitus in any way, and it took me almost 10 seconds to realize that I do have tinnitus as well. Some notes...

Repeated Modified Nerve Blocks and Auditory and Non-Auditory Nerve Stimulation

Yes and also because tinnitus is very prevalent. If their treatments worked, word would spread from mouth to mouth. Has anyone checked Korean social media posts? If this works as reported, I would expect to see testimonials on social media.

Repeated Modified Nerve Blocks and Auditory and Non-Auditory Nerve Stimulation

I did some armchair assessment on the results. 1) What Sedley points out in above worries me a quite a bit. In general in science, it is very uncommon for things to appear like this... out of the blue. 2) I checked the authors. I could not find their profiles or almost any previous papers...

    Chit Chat and All That...

I find that ever since Russia attacked Ukraine my tinnitus has bothered me even less. As I do doom scrolling in Twitter my tinnitus can be super loud but the bothersomeness is very low. Worrying about Russian invasion, seeing blown up houses, killed children and burned soldiers is unpleasant but...

Otonomy OTO-313 — Treatment of Tinnitus

I would love to see a pointer to Phase 1 results. Is there a paper somewhere?

    Alcohol Quiets Down My Tinnitus

Sure. "Comparing before and after each drug, clonazepam significantly improved tinnitus loudness (74% of subjects), duration (63%), annoyance (79%)" This sentence means two things: 1) There is a statistical significant difference between clonazepam and placebo (gingo). Please note that...

    Alcohol Quiets Down My Tinnitus

Benzos also work only in part of the population. In a study 23% (9/38) got really big improvement, 2/3 or more reduction in tinnitus loudness, from Benzos, while 55% got almost nothing: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22626945/ Interestingly the share of people that get improvement is roughly...

    Alcohol Quiets Down My Tinnitus

Like for so many in this thread alcohol seems to work for me as well. I have made several tests and the usual pattern is like this. 1-2 makes tinnitus worse. 3-4 my left side prominent tinnitus moves completely to right side. This is actually the weirdest part. So alcohol suppress left side...

Episode 13: Tinnitus and the Power of Prediction — Dr. Will Sedley

Maybe he is on the correct path. If one looks at YouTube for tinnitus sound therapies then many of the most popular ones have sound components that are totally unpredictable. This kind of YouTube “market analysis” is no scientific fact yet it can give hints on what kind of approach might work.

Lenire — Bimodal Stimulation Treatment by Neuromod

They should build a regression model to show what type of patients get the most benefit. This is very old fashioned ”all tinnitus patients are the same” type of paper. Of course it might be in the company’s best interest to not do this as it would reduce the number of possible clients.

What Do Doctors Need to Understand About Tinnitus?

I second that. Encouragement but not being dismissive. It is amazing what can one get used to. I think one of the tinnitus researchers said to Hazel that he has tinnitus “sometimes it is louder than your voice”. That line has really resonated with me.

Why Does My Tinnitus Never Stabilize? Constanty Changing — Having Trouble Habituating

Fluctuation is the name of the game. For me it has been like that still. This week Mon-Wed good / decent. Thursday is about as loud as ever. I also have no idea what causes variations. I have tried all sorts of things. Results appear to be that nothing impacts for better or worse.
