My Experience with Loud, Screaming Tinnitus: Struggles, Discoveries, and a Path to Healing

Glad to hear you’ve found some peace with your symptoms! I hope you continue to improve. I’ve also had a long and challenging journey with this and am currently reading a book by Kevin Hogan, which shares some similar principles. I think I’ll pick up Julian’s next. Are there any regular or...

Gotcha sorry to hear, mines been mostly noise related/random. I’ve never personally used benzos or any meds that spiked before, but I’ve seen plenty of stories where people get a lot better over time after getting off. It’s super tough to be in the acute stages :/

Hey vilebubbles, sorry to hear that, I sympathize with you. The initial months after a worsening can be extremely challenging. Was there a specific incident that started this one? When I had my sharpest worsening a couple years ago I was a wreck for a long time, and the condition went up and...

Had some setbacks this past month, and have been struggling pretty badly again. Essentially, I make some delicate progress between setbacks, and then any harsh noise exposure 100x trumps all of that, rinse and repeat. Extremely frustrating to say the least Started reading Kevin Hogan's "Turning...

Catastrophic Tinnitus Worsening After 7 Years — Caused by a Kiss on the Ear

I am truly sorry to hear about your struggles, and I sincerely hope things are improving for you now. I apologize for not responding sooner. After I began to feel better in the spring of 2023, I avoided these forums. During that time, I enjoyed a period where I felt okay most days, although I...

I partially held in a sneeze on accident and it affected my right ear. Other loud incidents haven’t caused lasting worsenings, but everything has gone to a new level these past days somehow from this

    Suicidal

I need to vent—this is my first time here in over a year. After my catastrophic worsening in fall 2022, I never got back to normal, but at least I was enjoying life a bit while living an adjusted lifestyle. ...until yesterday when I held in a sneeze, which spiked my tinnitus in my right ear...

Yes definitely. It can be pretty severe for a few days to week after sound incidents. If I'm able to have a good week without any harsh noises, my ears seem to settle down quite a bit, and I'll be pretty much pain free. Of course the usual T and H never goes away completely

@MindOverMatter thanks for your response! That's helpful to hear your experience. I will try to apply some of this into my routine. I'm currently in a bad spike - feels like I'm always either just starting to get out of a spike or starting up a whole new cycle. Was the counseling tinnitus...

Quietest Video Game Consoles (Controllers)? Games That Can Be Played without Sound?

I got an Xbox One S which is a virtually silent console (speaking as someone with severe, housebound hyperacusis). The only catch is the controller is pretty clicky which can be too much on a bad day. Can you handle typing on a clicky keyboard? Otherwise I think I've heard the PlayStation...

@Juliane for those of us with severe, housebound levels of T & H, I would say it brings more suffering than people on the outside could possibly imagine. Even with nearly a 5+ years of mild tinnitus, I suffered, but could not have dreamt it could become like this and assumed people like me...

@MindOverMatter I recently hit a year mark since a sudden worsening. Since then my T and H have been insanely easy to worsen further and I am actually feeling about as bad as ever now. How long did it take you to start feeling better? What helped the most? thank you

I've been able to enjoy summer a bit by getting outside to the backyard and woods. However, the T still quickly goes nuclear if I have any sound slip ups, and it continues slowly worsens over weeks/months. Unfortunately, it seems I was dealt a difficult case, but I hold onto hope. How are you doing?
