  • Had 4 months of very mild H, to the point I had forgotten how much it takes out of you. Now I'm back to... everything hurts. Anyone have any strategies for success, aside from hearing aids? They make my ears worse.

Throw away those hearing aids, they probably make it worse in the long run.
How are you doing these days buddy?
    M
Thanks for asking! Learning to live with the T. Looking into an operation for the H though. Have a new assignment at work because of the ears, but I'm alive. Lol hope you're well!
Hey, how are you getting on with the teaching?
    M
Funny you ask- as of this week, I'm no longer conducting band rehearsals. It's just too loud and def the cause of my T and H spike. I'm now teaching small group lessons for most of my day. More manageable. Always with ear plugs. Hoping things calm down in the next few months. The T and H have won for now.

That's great to hear. So is it musicians earplugs you use, the ones that reduce the sound level while still maintaining clarity?
    M
I have the molded plugs and earasers. The molded ones are good for lots of playing- hard to talk with though. The earasers are easier to teach with. I forget they are in sometimes.
Haven't needed to come here in a while. Summer was good for my ears-just a hiss. Now The crippling bass tones have returned. Breathe‍♂️
Every time my tinnitus lowers to a reasonable level and I think I'm on the mend…. Boom, it goes crazy again. Hang in there friends.

Same here. From almost gone to boom. :p

    Same here...

It really is a cruel joke. Had about a month of just low white noise (in quiet spaces). Now it sounds like a party in there all day long. ‍♂️
Another week of white noise (which I really don't mind) as compared to crazy pitches everywhere. Hopefully it lasts this time. H sucks.
There's just no end to this.....

I played guitar for the first time in nearly a year the other day. Some of the strings sounded so harsh when I picked them... It's a damn shame considering I play classical guitar and all my music involves picking. Hurts my ears just thinking about it. However, life is impermanent. Things change. Just gotta make some very hard adjustments.

I'm hoping this isn't forever. I thought I was passed the H a couple times, but I wasn't. Looking forward to better days. Hoping you get to enjoy guitar again ..

yeah i feel exactly the same, i have plenty of studio equipment cos i am/was electronic music producer, and a audio engineer. I just dont want to ever let go of them and they were so expensive too. so i get that, 100%
Almost a year in. My T and H still change all the time. I have amazing weeks followed by pretty terrible weeks. I can't make sense of it.
    @MusicTeacher,
I was following your thread because I too was a teacher and have a kiddo. You mentioned your child yelled in your ear. That is also what happened to me. My 7 year yelled in my ear during homeschool (remote learning) one day. :-(
Tonight-T lowered to the point I had to listen for it. I felt normal. It was strange. My H was killing me all day. A little gift at the end
Not sure why my T changes so much. New head sounds sneaking up on me in very quiet places. Guess I'll try my- eat nothing tasty diet. Lol

So sorry @MusicTeacher. I've been experiencing the same thing lately but am trying to reframe those new, quieter sounds by telling myself that they're just being created by my head. Seems to work to a point... just wish it would work for the loud and intrusive sounds. Hang in there.
I hate spikes.T and H have jumped -no obvious reason. Progress has been good lately, but it feels like a huge leap backwards. Stay positive
I no longer hate myself. I can even feel bits of normalcy from time to time. I DO hate: dishes, silverware, children screaming and eeeeeeeee
6 months today. What I've learned:meditation, exercise, clean diet, and moving on with life are all key pieces to recovery- at least for me.
    M
I have three different methods. Sometimes I go to a very quiet space- accept the sounds, and eventually they start to become secondary to my breath. I've noticed I can control the volume of different pitches as well. Sometimes I go to the beach- the wind and waves pretty much bury my tinnitus .
    M
Lastly, if I can't deal with the sound, I put in my hearing aids with some white noise to offset everything in my head.
Since I've started meditation (and living healthier) my low tones are 90% gone and the shaking I've felt in my chest is much less. All good stuff.
    M
The normal pitches are still there but I'm staying hopeful they will fade.
Had a couple good days. Tinnitus didn't rule my existence. It almost seemed lower. Today was super stressful and my T is as loud as ever.
    Steph1710
My days are also like this. Seems common place with T. Hope it settles soon.

Tinnitus can be a gauge of stress levels, diet, muscular things like that.
5 months yesterday. When does this get easier?!?!?!
    H
Mine started off as one relentless sound. Then it was gone about 50 percent of my days. Now I have 3-4 different tone, but all but the first one is so quiet I can only hear it with earplugs. Except from the most recent low hum sound, no idea how that one will pan out.
    H
This new sound makes me realize how accepting I am of the original sound... I'm not very bothered by it after 1,5 years. I was suicidal for about a year after it started, but that had a lot to do with me not being able to work as a music producer or create music anymore.
    M
I'm in the same boat with the music. I started with crazy full head noise that settled in one ear, then both ears, then head as well, mostly back to the ears now. My tones are not so silent, but hoping they fade.
Ok. Trying the gluten free diet. Nothing to lose except a few extra pounds and maybe some T decibels. H is getting much better. T Hates me.
Right ear sounds different today- the pitch changed... and a little louder than usual. D to a g. Maybe the Gabapentin...
Low drone is back in my left ear. Was really trying to be positive yesterday. There is no mercy.
    Steph1710
Nope. The sound is relentless. I know it so well. Mine has decided it's going to be such a high pitch today, that my whole head is vibrating!
Anyone's H spike with allergies? I always get them this time of year. Wondering if it might be contributing to my H spike.
