  • How does one swim with tinnitus? Are special ear plugs recommended?
    Christiaan
I often go for the occasional dip in the public swimming pool without earplugs. I haven't noticed a worsening so far

I used to swim with ear plugs but they kept falling out. Now I swim without ear plugs and leave the water if noisy kids or adults arrive
Had a sinus surgery for an unrelated condition. Unfortunately, no effect on T. Leads me further to believe that my T is neurological.

I thought this might be related to T. I had a 7.5 hour surgery where they drilled out a bunch of bone and made the 2 sinus cavities into 1 . I had high hopes it would cure my T somehow but it did not. I'm suspicious that this issue somehow led to T though.

How is / was your recovery? Mine was so much worse than I thought it would be, had no balance for days and was bed ridden. Also had to wear sunglasses even in the house because everything felt so bright .

@cjbhab I had a cyst in one of my sinuses, probably due to allergic inflammation. Over many years it filled the whole cavity and blocked drainage, and a surgery was necessary. I confirmed this before my tinnitus onset. I am fine now (except T), just getting a lot of nose bleeds and clotting as expected. Dr. instructed to rinse sinuses with saline.
I admire people who find the strength to continue regardless of this condition.

I think because as time goes on the brain starts to adapt and makes it easier to deal with the annoyance of the constant sound.

I feel the same but have been thinking we should put that thought into perspective so that we don't get down about our own progress. Everyone's T is different.

I am so scared that I never can. Habituating to mild T was a picnic in comparison to this monster.
How could it get so bad from a simple cold? Life dreams and hopes shattered over such a mundane thing.

Snap! It was the cold did it to me in September 2022. Although I strongly believe the vaccine predisposed it

Everything seems to cause this condition and nothing seems to resolve it...

I so hope and pray that one day when we look back at all this, it will seem like a distant nightmare and we will be happy and free of the noise.
Still in disbelief that I likely have to live through this torture daily for the next 50 or so years.

Things are on the horizon. So hopefully won't be daily torture for the rest of our lives.

This part of it is so scary. How do we make it? Praying for all.
Main problem is sleep, but don't know how to improve it. Sound machine doesn't mask all T sounds well, and I don't want to take sleep pills.

Thank you. I've tried this, too, but I just can't stop following the voices on the screen. So they keep me awake. I am not used to this because previously I always slept in silence…
Trying to ignore the sound as best as I can… Still haven't really slept in multiple days, and I think it's becoming steadily louder.
I was referred to a CT scan with iodinated contrast. This forum mentions different effects on T. Has anybody else had experience with this?
