Pleasantly Surprised About New Research Since Vacation.

If this forum, and this thread, has taught me one thing, it's that people with debilitating tinnitus are unbelievably resiliant and have a wonderful sense of humour.

    Ways of Reducing Tinnitus Volume?

Have you tried using hearing aids? They seem to help a lot of people and I've seen studies where hearing aids have brought down the volume of tinnitus in more than 50 percent of people.

Hi Jason. Hope you're well. Firstly, I just wanted to say that I appreciate all your reading and experimention with regards to tinnitus treatment. I often come across your posts and they are usually very useful/novel. I can attest to the fact that if I good nights sleep then the tinnitus is...

Theory of Why Tinnitus Volume Fluctuates Throughout the Day

Sorry, I wasnt trying to diminish your suffering. How old are you if you dont mind me asking?I notice you have put a lot of causes for your tinnitus. What do you reckon was the the main reason? Thanks, Sonny.

Theory of Why Tinnitus Volume Fluctuates Throughout the Day

Yes. This is what I'm talking about. If tinnitus was just a phantom signal as a result of hearing loss it wouldnt fluctuate so damn much. Good to hear the tinnitus isnt too bad for you, and that melatonin helps. Any idea why the melatonin helps so much? Thanks, Sonny.

Theory of Why Tinnitus Volume Fluctuates Throughout the Day

Hi guys. Hope you're well. Something that really baffles me about tinnitus is how it fluctuates quite a lot throughout the day, and across different days. I have times during the day where I can barely even hear it and other times when I can hear it about most things in the house and over the...

    Some Encouraging Signs

That's really great to hear. You are doing the right thing. The less attention you give it the more it will fade into the background as you are telling your brain its not important and doing so, over time, should reduce the salience and even volume of the sound according to much research. As...

    Might Be a Rant, Have a ?

Interesting story. You mentioned your tinnitus only got bad in the last 2 years despite having it for 6 years? What made it get a lot worse? Have you looked into Tinnitus Retraining Therapy? Have you thought about taking any anti anxiety or anti depressant medications?

I Had Several Seizures the Other Day and Now I'm Experiencing Tinnitus

This is interesting. So you reckon if you didn't live life in the fast lane and abuse your ears after getting your initial low level tinnitus, then it would have remained a low level as opposed to increasing? Also, what precisely did you do to make the sound so much worse. What would you...

What If It's Just the Stress or Anxiety?

I feel there will always be outliers, but it's better to look at general trends to draw meaningful conclusions. Is It Common/Normal for Tinnitus to Fluctuate/Change Volume Throughout the Day?

Is It Common/Normal for Tinnitus to Fluctuate/Change Volume Throughout the Day?

Is It Common/Normal for Tinnitus to Fluctuate/Change Volume Throughout the Day?

It seems to me like you have a strong anxiety-tinnitus connection and for that reason I reckon something like meditation or CBT would really help to calm your nervous system and thus your tinnitus. Both things are scientifically proven to robustly lower anxiety and stress levels for the long term.

Can't Hear My Tinnitus If I'm Really Focusing on Something, an Indication That I'll Habituate?

Thanks for sharing your story. The thing that gets me about tinnitus is that there are no trends to draw. For example, a friend of mine knows a DJ who has subjected himself to super loud music for extended periods of times for 25 years and only now has very mild T that he can hear in a quiet...

Can't Hear My Tinnitus If I'm Really Focusing on Something, an Indication That I'll Habituate?

I am glad yours is mild but I guess everyone's idea of mild is different. Your's might be even lower than mine, or higher, who knows. Have you done much/anything to get your anxiety addressed as it seems to me that that is what's causing you distress with this even after 2.5 years. I guess...

Can't Hear My Tinnitus If I'm Really Focusing on Something, an Indication That I'll Habituate?

Hi, Hope you're well guys. I have only had tinnitus for just over two months due to a middle ear operation. My tinnitus is the hissing kind, I would say it's mild but it varies in volume slightly throughout the day. However, I noticed that if I'm really focusing on something, there can be a...

I do agree with this. Someone with mild T and that has previously been prone to/had a lot of anxiety/depression/OCD can be affected and bothered by the mild T as much as and sometimes more than someone with moderate/severe T that isn't prone/doesn't have a long history of...

It's good to hear you have gotten some reduction even though it's only mild. And in a way you are lucky that your tinnitus is almost non existent sometimes. There are some who have it super loud all the time with no relief. And the fact that your tinnitus can be almost non existent is also...

Mate, I have every hope that it will. And I'm not just saying that. I don't blame them. Severe tinnitus can bring out the worst in anyone. I know some here have it worse than others but we are all suffering with this to some degree and all want the same thing, either to habituate to the sound or have it go away entirely.

Stop Telling Me to Live with It or Habituate

It's in the first link he posted. The study does mention it is referring to those with "severe" tinnitus. One hole in the study is that it was done over a two year period, and I would suspect that those with more severe tinnitus may need longer than that to fully habituate. I think the...

It's not so much as having no emotional response at all, but it's about lowering the emotional response so much that it becomes a non issue at best and a very mild annoyance at worst. It can be achieved when you decouple the tinnitus sound from the emotional limbic part of your brain. I am not...

Stop Telling Me to Live with It or Habituate

I think a lot of you might be misunderstanding the purpose of/goal of habituation. It's not "giving up" or "throwing in the towel", or even "putting up with it". It is a process of removing the emotional response to the tinnitus and the hyper focus of it so that you think about it less and so...

Seems to Be No Relationship Between Amount of Hearing Loss and Loudness of Tinnitus. Am I Right?

Yes, I agree. This is what makes this all so damn strange. There are no real correlations anywhere. I guess it's so different for each person as the brain is involved. It seems some people have much better in built suppressant mechanisms in their brain than others which is why some people are...
