I’ve never had an extended audiogram, but I’ve looked up the thresholds in dbSPL and used an app that kind of functions as an extended audiogram. I’m nearly certain that if I did have an extended audiogram to 16kHz, it would be normal.
My hearing starts declining around 13.5 to 14kHz, which is...
@FGG or anyone else that knows this:
When doing a sine sweep or using a tone generator, I “feel” the highest frequencies more than I can “hear” it as a tone, except at the end when the tone stops. There isn’t much of a perceptual volume change even as the volume goes up. This occurs mostly in...
If you can, next time you go shopping, try buying some magnesium tablets, NAC, and curcumin/turmeric. They can make yours ears more durable and help with tinnitus for some.
Hi Clare.
I’ve had Tinnitus since I was 16. I’m 18 now.
Your tinnitus can improve over time if you protect your ears. I recommend taking magnesium, NAC, and curcumin or turmeric tablets. Some of our members here have reported their tinnitus is better when they take curcumin.
There are some...
Couldn’t believe what I saw when I logged in.
Severe tinnitus is no joke. I’ve only experienced loud tinnitus the first day I got it, I can’t imagine how it must feel to live with this agonizing condition constantly 24/7.
My heart goes out to everyone here and Allan’s family for having to...
Thanks for the responses everyone. I will be taking OxyContin for a few days plus a nerve block. There may be other things I may be on. I’ll update this thread if needed.
I’ll be getting ankle reconstruction done on Monday. Has anyone here had surgery where you are given lots of painkillers with tinnitus? I’m super nervous about the surgery itself, and the possibility of my tinnitus or hearing getting worse is even more unnerving.
My parents have always said that I’m one of the nicest and funniest people that they know. I literally did the same thing to my teachers webpage and they thought it was funny.
Lastly, even though I think there is nothing wrong with someone habituating to tinnitus, the main goal should be...
ENTs usually will check for wax and stuff like that. If you have impacted earwax, get a manual cleaning.
As far as the audiologist goes, request an extended audiogram (16-20khz) and get an OAE. Those are the most useful tests at the audiologist. Make sure to avoid the acoustic reflex test.
I had a tympanometry test done. It wasn't loud. You're probably referring to the acoustic reflex test, which plays a loud tone. The problem with doing a tympanometry test is that it is often combined with the acoustic reflex test.
Lately, I've been using nicotine patches to help with my ADHD. I've read that nicotine can worsen tinnitus and hearing due to constricted blood vessels, but I haven't noticed any worsening symptoms since I began using them. I'm only using a quarter to half a patch, which is 7 to 14 mg a day. In...
I’ve never had a whistling sound above my tinnitus, but I’ve had a sharp distorted sound during a sudden sharp noise. It didn’t go away 100%, but it did improve with time.
I’m actually 17 going on 18, and my family does understand what I’m going through, however, they don’t know more of the “subtle” things about Tinnitus and hearing loss.
Back in 2008 an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 centered in Illinois woke me up early in the morning and rocked my bed back and forth for a few seconds. In 2010, there was another earthquake not far from where I live which was registered as a 3.8, although I slept through that one...
The EPA says that 70 dB for 24 hours is the maximum safe exposure, however, since you had a noise trauma, I would probably go less than this for now. From what I’ve heard, you should ideally listen to music as loud as people talking, so within the 60-70 dB range. You can always go even lower if...
Hello darkness, my old friend,
I've come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
For me, both ears start to decrease around 14khz or so, by 15khz my right ear has a big dip, and my hearing stops around 16.5-17khz for my right ear and anywhere between 17.5-18.5khz for my left ear.
