    TIRED but Plugging On

I've had tinnitus for a decade or more. It's been a royal annoyance and while I'm mostly past the original panic (not entirely!), it still bothers me - I've never, ever fully habituated to it. Part of the reason for that is that I don't hear the same sound all the time - I hear a whole plethora...

    Magnesium

Since I'm currently experiencing worsened T and fairly high levels of anxiety, I'm thinking of trying magnesium. Specifically, this brand: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BD0RT0/ Any thoughts?

My Tinnitus Sounds Identical to What Causes It

I hear multiple sounds and tones (and seem to have acquired a new one recently), but not quite like what you're describing.

Comparison of Melatonin and Sertraline Therapies on Tinnitus: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Melatonin was one thing I took to help me sleep at night but apparently I must be acclimating to it. I'm up to 12 mg a night (I take the Alteril brand, which has several other natural sleep aids included) and I still need to take an occasional sleeping pill. Partly this is a response to...

Can Tinnitus Get Better, Then Worse, Then Better?

Absolutely. If there's one constant with my T it's that there is no constant. It spikes, it relaxes, noises change...in my case all the novelty has made habituation a whole lot of frustration but never boring :/

Student Thesis Research — Emotional and Psychological Experiences After a Tinnitus Diagnosis

I'd be happy to participate, though plain email works much, much better given my schedule (I'm never sure when I can find ten consecutive minutes, LOL!) If that's suitable: tonks3cat@gmail.com

Could Trying This "Remedy" (Vicks VapoRub) Make My Tinnitus Possibly Worse?

Hey, I love the stuff (always found that menthol- eucalyptus scent delightful) but yeah, I'd rather breathe it :)

Tinnitus and Its Effect on Relationships

That would be hell piled on top of hell. I'm fortunate to have a supportive group of people around me otherwise I might possibly be dead now myself. Even posting here - or just reading reading others' posts - is therapeutic, but it doesn't (or shouldn't!) take the place of caring family or friends.

Tonic Tensor Tympani Syndrome (TTTS) ... Valuable Information for People With Physical Symptoms

They seem to have taken that site down... been experiencing some TTTS symptomology recently, hence the investigation. Would this have been the paper you were referencing? http://www.hyperacusis.net/resources/noiseandhealth2013.pdf

    ssssssss.......sssssss.s..ssss...ssss..ss.s.ssssss

That's one of the noises I hear, though I've always thought of it more like the old static one used to get with television sets (dating myself here, no young'un today would know what that sounds like with cable and hi-def tvs). I'm hearing that one right now, but I gotta admit it's one of the...

Looking for Great Highmark ENTs to See?

Okay, this is way out there but on the thought that nothing's impossible, here goes: I live in the Pittsburgh, PA region. When this round of T started, I had health insurance that would cover both Highmark and UPMC doctors - I tried four doctors, all of whom were through UPMC, and although ONE...

Can a Hearing Aid Make Tinnitus Worse?

I'm one of those for whom maskers didn't work - my T spiked through the roof when I tried them. Which does make me a bit unsure of what would happen if it's ever decided that I need hearing aids...

If I Have Multiple Noises and My Tinnitus Is Constantly Changing, That Means It Won't Go Away?

The first months are the worst because everything in you wants to run from this. I cried and screamed for a long, long time and used to beat my own head, trying to get this to stop. I probably made it worse for myself in so doing. I still have the occasional bad day when it's particularly loud...

Wondering What We All Do for Our Work/Job/Living

Graphic artist for local trophy company. Fairly noisy environment; pretty sure it triggered my T. I like my job, though, in spite of the hum of laser engravers :)

If I Have Multiple Noises and My Tinnitus Is Constantly Changing, That Means It Won't Go Away?

No assumptions with this damn thing. Strange things happen with it; while I have not personally heard of this version going completely away I have heard of improvement. I also hear multiple noises at different times; while I've had it for years and have grown mostly used to it, I still hope...

Shower Can Give Me Prolonged Suppression

Oddly, for me, showers don't help. If I'm having a good day, showers are fine and if a bad day, showers make it worse.

    Alternatives to Ibuprofen?

Ibuprofen does not have the same effect on all cases of tinnitus. It aggravates some but not others. In my case, it doesn't affect my tinnitus.

Is It Possible to Habituate to Multiple Tones?

I'm several years in and I hear roughly a half dozen noises total; sometimes two at once, one ear doing its thing and the other sounding off with a different noise. Sometimes my left ear is totally silent. I hope yours is short term and goes away soon, but if not, yes - habituation is possible.

Tinnitus or Not? I Can Hear a Buzzing Sound but I Don't Have Hearing Loss

Do You Tell Your Friends About Your Tinnitus?

I tell everyone I work with because it's primarily (I think!) because of my job that I have it, so I have to tell folks "hey, I'm sorry, but that machine really irritates me - can you run that job a little later when I'm over there/at lunch/etc." I'm blessed because the folks I work with are...

I Was a Guinea Pig in the Autifony QUIET-1 Study, Great Results

I have constantly changing T (in terms of severity) and it's been my life for several years now - I am SERIOUSLY interested in this. Is your T more constant? The fact that yours continued to be suppressed for a time after ending the initial trial is extremely interesting in and of itself. I'd...

    When Is Tinnitus Considered Permanent?

Hi, y'all. Loooong time no jump in (though I do lurk from time to time). I'm on my second round of T, the first one occurred almost a dozen years ago and disappeared in about 8 or 9 months... this second burst has lasted going on a few years now. Did the whole doctor thing. Even got an MRI...

    The Hunger Games: Catching Fire!

I've been to several movies since the T onset, the last one being "Thor: The Dark World" (Chris Hemsworth. Anyone Else's Tinnitus Staying the Same?

Mine changes ALL the time. Both in the type of sound I hear (I can pick out six different sounds) and in volume/intensity/pitch. It's usually worse for me when I first go to work on Monday morning, stays bad through Tuesday, begins to moderate on Wednesday, and quiets down significantly by the...

Is It True That Some People's Tinnitus Go Away?

I'm not sure what caused mine in either instance. I work in a trophy shop (I'm the graphic artist there, I get to redraw logos when folks bring me really bad versions of theirs, adjust photographs, set up files for glass etching, etc.). But I'm also in the same room with our three laser...

    A whole new world

Auditory hallucinations aren't unheard of - I don't thing it's experienced by the bulk of T sufferers but I HAVE read about many who have had it. I can say the panic attacks certainly don't help, but hang in there.... things DO get better. Even if the T doesn't, YOU do. Tell your fiance that...

Melatonin Might Be Beneficial, Especially in Preventing Hearing Loss?

I take two Alterils most nights. In about an hour, I'm pleasantly drowsy and can usually drop off to sleep pretty easily (although sometimes I do need my sound machine on as well). **Generally** I have noticed a quieting of the T after taking these... doesn't happen every night (Mondays are my...

Is It True That Some People's Tinnitus Go Away?

This is actually my second bout with T. About a decade ago I had it for eight months... and yep, it went away. I hoped it was gone for good... welp, it's been back for two years now so although I'm hoping lightning will strike twice, each day I have it somewhat negates that thought :) I am...
