Can Vitamin D Make Tinnitus Worse?

I had a blood test which showed I was low in Vit D. I take a high dose in winter and lower in summer. I've just come back from two weeks in Florida, I forgot to take any supplements with me and didn't bother buying any as I was getting the benefit of plenty of sunshine. I have been on a lower...

    Man's Clever but Noisy Inventions

While they probably aren't loud enough to cause damage those Xcelerator type hand dryers in public toilets can be very uncomfortable to the ears.........in a conversation quite a few people I know have admitted that if that is the only option they would prefer not to wash their hands. I now...

Have Had Tinnitus for 10+ Years? Do You Still Have Your Original Tone That First Became Permanent?

Got a huge variety of buzzes, rings and hisses, fortunately seldom all at the same time!! Looking back I can't even remember what the original noise was, a hiss I think. I get an occasional musical tone, not particularly unpleasant but for some strange reason that's the one I really dislike and...

Survey: Would You Be Interested in a Social-Friendy Decibel Meter?

Done.......but I'm firmly in the 'why would I even need this camp'. To me it seems like an opportunity for people to profit from other people's anxiety.

    Flying & Tinnitus

I have fluctuating T and hearing loss. As I've mentioned elsewhere I fly quite a bit, maybe three return transatlantic flights a year and the same around Europe. I can honestly say I have never experienced any real problems with flying. I got back to London from Miami on 6.30 a.m. on Sunday...

    One Flight, Two Descents!

As flying often comes up one here I thought I would share my story from yesterday. I flew from London to Newark yesterday, I fly fairly frequently without any problems. I do take a few minor precautions such as noise cancelling headphones but to be honest one of the things I like about flying...

    Life Goes On...

@Jason C I have had sporadic T for at least twenty years. It progressed to moderate (at the time I thought it was severe....little did I know) about eight years ago after a stapedectomy op to correct the hearing loss in my left ear failed, the hearing loss was due to otosclerosis. In the...

    Life Goes On...

On 20th September I flew from London to Newark and returned to London on 27th September. I used my noise cancelling headphones for part of each flight to listen to music or an audio book, I briefly used earplugs on the return flight in a futile attempt to get some sleep. I used to chew gum...

Ototoxic Meds & Tinnitus — Do You All Avoid Them? Do You Find It Difficult to Avoid Them?

I take generic paracetamol (acetaminophen) whenever I need some form of pain relief and have never had any problems. As a first resort for headaches I use a product called 4Head, it's a small stick containing Levomenthol that you apply direct to the forehead, surprisingly effective.

    Gong Bath

Yesterday evening I was invited to a Gong Therapy workshop by a friend and decided to go because it sounded interesting. I brought along my yoga mat as instructed fully expecting there to be a lecture or talk followed by a short meditation session with gongs. How wrong could I be? It was...

Traveling... Difference in Air Pressure etc.

@Mario martz as you say 'enjoy the ride' but please do try the plane another time, I'm sure you would be fine. I fly across the Atlantic fron London to the U.S. about three times a year without problem. Off to NJ/NYC in a few weeks and I can't wait. DF has quite a pollution problem doesn't...

    The Positivity Thread

I'm on holiday in Southern Spain. The first day I arrived just over a week ago I developed a rash on my lower back, turns out it's shingles/zoster virus. I've been to see a doc and got some meds but it still itches and stings like crazy. On the plus side it's made me completely forget about my...

    What Has Improved Your Tinnitus?

Time....... To be more precise my tinnitus has fluctuated quite a bit over the years and my baseline is probably a bit louder than when I first got T and it's now in both ears but I rarely find it distressing or intrusive now.

Would You Say That Having Tinnitus Has Made You a Stronger Person?

Yes. I always thought I was a bit defeatist ...... turns out I'm not. The all day every day T has been hard to come to terms with but twice in the last year I've also had two episodes of Menieres symptoms, each lasting around 8 weeks. The unpredictable vertigo, dizziness, hearing loss and...

I Have to Fly in a Couple of Months

I really don't get why people are measuring the noise on flights? It's not as though you can do anything about it. IMO measuring it can only heighten anxiety and there's nothing like anxiety to ramp up T. Sit back and watch a movie, read a book or listen to music and enjoy the flight. Also I...

I Have to Fly in a Couple of Months

Flew back from Newark to London overnight on Tueday, took no particular precautions apart from my Bose headphones. I do have 'ear plane' ear plugs but they are so damned uncomfortable that I have given up on them, I also sometimes chew gum on descent but forgot this time. Absolutely no...

Loud Tone for a Few Seconds — Fleeting / Transient Spontaneous Tinnitus

@Jamie m that happens to me quite a bit. You're very new to the T thing.......I'm eight years in and to me now it's more of a case of "oh yeah...there it goes again" and I guess sometimes it doesn't even register. I won't lie it does 'get to me' occasionally but less and less as time goes by.

What Is Life Worth without Hearing Normally?

I have severe hearing loss in my left ear. In the past 14 months I have had two Ménière's type attacks, each lasting around eight weeks (temporary complete hearing loss, vertigo, H and extremely loud T) this has now caused very slight hearing loss in my right earns well. I now have constant...

Poll: Does Tinnitus Keep You from Having a Job?

I used to teach kindergarten, hearing loss made me decide to take early retirement. About six months after a failed stapodectomy operation the T began in earnest and after another six months or so I went back to work as a part time nanny to some older children simply to take my mind off the T.

I have a very clear memory from when I was around five or six (I'm 60 now) ........ It was Christmas Night and we were staying overnight at my Aunties and I had been put to bed. I even remember the nightdress I was wearing, dark blue and white striped, trimmed with white lace. After a long...

Suggestions.... What Do You Do for Headaches?

I used to get a lot of headaches too, fortunately not so many now. Dehydration often causes headaches so first off I would drink a big glass of water, incidentally alcohol often causes dehydration. I also use a U.K product called 4Head. It's menthol type stick you rub on your forehead, not...

Has Anyone Been to NYC with Tinnitus?

I went to NYC just before Christmas with no problems. Since then as well as the T, I have been diagnosed with Ménière's. I am going to NYC again in ten days time. I live in England so also have a 7+ hour flight factored into the mix. Go live your life.

    Acceptance

Your story is very similar to mine @Hil. For me doing a Mindfulness course has been a great help not just with the T and ETD but with life in general. It seems to me that some people on this forum equate acceptance to giving in or giving up, it's not the same thing.

Just About to Get on a Plane...

@Hariz Nonis the T in my left ear is due to hearing loss. I've had it for about 7 years and had pretty much habituated. During that 7 years I flew long haul (8+ hours) at least once a year also several shorter flights. Sometimes the T would be slightly worse for a few hours but as often as...

    Flying, Anyone Had Issues?

I too was really worried about flying when I first got T. Since then I've made 15 long haul flights and at least 20 short haul flights. I sometimes noticed an increase in T after a long haul flight but think that was as much due to the time-difference/stress/tiredness as the flight itself, T...
