    How Do You Sleep?

This was the hardest part for me, and which caused the most distress, I would say. In the end I used amitriptyline. I used ear buds to play soothing ambient sounds, and it would work to get me to sleep but I would wake early, uncomfortable and unable to see sleep again. I bought a book that...

I'm Back, but Just for Today

Hey Neenie, I wanted to add my voice to the number of people wishing you well and all the best for you. It's hard not to let the dark thoughts take over, but if you can observe them, you can reject them too. I remember feeling like you; people living their lives around me, and me jealous of all...

    Tinnitus and Anxiety

Hi Ishank Unfortunately, it's a bit of a vicious cycle; some of us become aware of mild tinnitus, which stresses us out. The stress and anxiety causes us to pay more attention to it (we tune into it), and then we notice it more. And so on. My own experience is that mine is worse when stressed...

    I Need Positive Support...

I get that fullness. It was what made me panic most I think. It took me a while to realize it was tension from stress and worry, which was then feeding back on itself from my reaction to it. When you're able to relax a bit, distract yourself, it will all subside enough for you to stop worrying...

Tinnitus Has Taken My Life Away

Neenie, you will find a way to cope. Your brain at the moment is reacting to the noise like it's a threat and it's causing the fear and anxiety. It makes it hard to sleep, and trying to deal with all this when tired makes it all worse. As others have said, a doctor will help you deal with the...

Jade what a fantastic response, thank you - made my morning. Made me smile too. Funnily enough, I am sitting in Costa, which was another part of my recovery plan - to get out and habituate, and do something instead of sitting scared at home. So I'm still doing it 18 months later. DD

My Tinnitus Has Spiked Really Loud :(

Hi @Per I've been away so took me a while to see your question. I did attend an initial consultation for TRT and we decided to focus on the mental approach, and not any kind of masking therapy. I didn't go back (yet), since I feel I've got it under control, and I was encouraged that I could...

My Tinnitus Has Spiked Really Loud :(

Per, I strongly believe it's perception. The only difference between now and when I thought my life was over is my mental approach. I don't hear it (in the perceptive sense) for the most part. When I do, I'm more questioning than worried about it (like, "is this louder than normal", or "how come...

My Tinnitus Has Spiked Really Loud :(

I definitely get periods where I think it's a lot louder, but I'm sure it's mostly a perception thing. Luckily it's rare that it distresses me. I still wonder if caffeine, stress, sleep are factors, but can't find a definite causal link.

When is a soundwave a friend and when is it an enemy?

Hi Per I think perhaps that it's a good idea to use the plugs where you feel you need them, no need to add anxiety into the mix. As long as you can find time to let ambient noise do its habituation thing, you should be able to find a good balance. DD

Sometimes that's all it takes to make your day better isn't it? I'm glad you're feeling better. I have one suggestion, if I may, which is to find a way of distracting yourself without the music too. If you play an instrument, spend a few minutes on it, or take a walk. But..whatever works...

I have to say that the existence of TRT was a life-buoy for me, regardless of its efficacy. Don't take away any shred of hope for people who are looking for a way to continue. Tinnitus for Two Weeks Now

Hi Sparrow Possibly it's only louder because you're paying so much attention to it? I can't believe music will worsen it, at a reasonable volume, and I also do believe that the best thing you can do is subject your ears to a healthy and wide range of sounds. This would include playing and...

Hi U001 Lots of people are effectively cured of their tinnitus by becoming habituated to it to the point of not noticing it any more. Tinnitus Sufferer, After Clubbing It Got Worse! Need Advice. Thanks.

I went to ENT originally, and was very suprised to learn my hearing was excellent. I am sure my T comes from playing in a loud rock band, so was puzzled. It gave me hope really that it was more anxiety related, and I think that started me on the road to complete habituation.

What Type of Computer and Operating System Are You Using?

Alienware + Windows 7, Samsung S2. I'm a Windows / Android kind of minion. Windows 8 is an excellent study in how to confuse your tablet market with your desktop market. It adds exactly nothing to the desktop experience (it actually slows you down), while clearly being designed for tablets/phones.

Last time I went to cinema it was seriously loud, and I play in a rock band. If it's not a musical you're going to , then hopefully it will be the odd sound effect, intro music, etc. You just stick your fingers in your ears, no-one's looking at you :-)

Going to the Theatre / Movies?

You can get an app for your phone that will measure the sound level. Use this to reassure yourself that it isn't as loud as you think. Is Learning to Ignore Tinnitus Considered a Cure to You?
