Having first real episode since FESS (almost 1 year post op) muffled hearing, loud tinnitus and high pitched squeaking over sounds

I had my first shot of AstraZeneca on Monday, I have fever at 39c, nausea, shivers, aching and generally feeling unwell. Tinnitus does seem more prominent (not louder, just prominent) but not sure if that’s just because I’m at home in bed and not at work so I’m listening to it more!

Hi! How are you now? I had FESS (middle meatal antrostomy) on the 27th October! Found my tinnitus soooo quiet for a week, then got an infection and it came back with a vengeance!

There’s a very high chance you are only experiencing the ringing as a result of your ear infection. Try not to worry too much & get lots of rest :-)

FESS done, T was SUPER quiet for about a week and a half. Now having a post op infection got pain, can’t hear and T is LOUD !

Hi @mrbrightside614 I had my surgery on Tuesday! Nowhere near as bad as I was expecting it to be. I had a middle meatal antrostomy in the end. The post surgery pain isn’t great but keeping on top of it with regular pain meds.

I get the distortion really bad sometimes. After a CT scan it was found I had really diseased sinuses on that side and when they were really infected my tinnitus/distortion would go through the roof. Maybe worth getting a scan done to rule it out! X

I get distortion from time to time and I have severe sinus disease on the side that gets it. Do your ears pop? Mine won’t at all when I get the echoing and it’s apparently something to do with my Eustachian tube. Some over the counter decongestant and heat usually helps :-)

I tried both Plantago and Dymista... Dymista is a DREAM, especially helping allergies, it’s the only thing I’ve found helps me stop chronically sneezing in the summer months. Plantago didn’t do anything for me and it is horrid to drink!

Hi @James Foley I suffer badly with sinus/ETD and I get that hiss often! Usually towards the end of an episode, like you Sudafed seems to really relieve it. I use a humidifier at night & a microwaveable wheat bag to ease it as well. I think it’s just a waiting game to be honest!

@UrbanBubblegum I am a long time Fexofenadine user. I usually only take it in hayfever months but I have been taking it continuously since October on the advice of ENT whilst I await allergy tests/sinus surgery! It helps my tinnitus if anything because I’m not as congested :-)

This happens to me every few weeks! I have an otovent (it’s a cheaper version of an ear popper) which helps me to pop my ear safely. Sometimes it takes like a week for mine to pop eventually! Over the counter Sudafed helps me too xx

25 here ‍♀️ Got pulsatile in one ear at 23 and then tinnitus in the other at 24! It can be really scary and daunting but know that it does get better. Although I have some days that feel really scary again it always passes. Mine too is sinus related (I think).

Mine is almost like a precursor to being ill! What country are you from? Sorry I’m in the UK and Sudafed is really common here but it might be under a different brand name where you are :)

I get a lower pitch added when my ETD is playing up! Get some over the counter Sudafed and see if that helps ?

@mrbrightside614 I’m sure you will be fine, I’m pleased that they are also doing something for you! I’m going to go to my consultation with an open mind but lots of questions so I know I’m 100% doing the right thing!

@Colt206 thats so great to hear! How is the pain post op? I had my tonsils out in 2018 & that was rough! @PeteJ its NHS so I wouldn’t be choosing my surgeon or be able to view reviews on him :-(

@Lane Also I should add I’m not supposed to attempt rinses anymore because the fluid was getting trapped and contributing to the problem !

@Lane I think I have tried every single type of sinus rinse available My CT scan showed severe sinus disease in all of my right side sinuses and there’s nothing else they (NHS) can do in terms of treatment except clean everything out :-( I haven’t had any issues with my nose so here’s hoping...

@Lane also in what way did he feel it was the worst decision? This is literally only to clean out my sinuses not to alter them in any way.

@Lane unfortunately It’s a last resort as I have tried everything else! I’m not bothered if it doesn’t take my tinnitus away but it would be nice to not have constant stabby pain ha! I am also looking to get my adenoids removed because I think that is the root of all my congestion!

@Shera ETD sucks so bad! They can’t figure out what’s causing mine, they put the camera up my nose and said my adenoids were huge (had tonsils out in 2018) but said they wouldn’t cause ETD ! Might print out the NHS page and take it to my next appointment ha ha x
