Hey Frank, yes I still pop in a few times a week though I’m not posting much these days, mostly for any updates on the Shore device/general research news. How are you doing?

@linearb, thank you for posting your experience! Have you ever suffered from hyperacusis (loudness or pain/noxacusis) or any type of sensitivity to sound? If so, did you notice any effect at all on the sensitivity while experiencing relief from tinnitus symptoms when using the device?

Hearing Loss and Severe Tinnitus — From Loving Life to Suicidal in 2 Months

Hey there @gameover, welcome to the forums. I am truly sorry to hear you are going through this awful experience. I felt compelled to write a reply as your reaction to developing tinnitus and hyperacusis reminds me of my own back in November 2021. I can absolutely relate to those feelings of...

New University of Michigan Tinnitus Discovery — Signal Timing

If Dr. Shore’s device would somehow calm the hyperactivity in my brain enough to mitigate hyperacusis and make me less prone to reacting or spiking from louder sounds/events, but had no real effect on my baseline tinnitus level, I’d be over the moon. I mostly habituated to tinnitus within 2...

Second show was all acoustic guitar based: Tommy Emmanuel w/ Richard Smith opening. Smaller theater and had a seat fairly close to the stage, just wore foam earplugs for this one. Only had to get out for a little bit when Tommy started doing percussion on the guitar lol. Some of the absolute...

For sure. First show was John Mellencamp who I’ve been wanting to see for years… bought the farthest possible ticket from the stage, wore foam earplugs + X5As and took breaks during the full band parts. It was awesome!

I’m dying for the device to finally come out so we can hear some real-world results and experiences, rather than numbers and graphs. The only aspect the data represents is the lowering of the tinnitus volume, which is revolutionary in itself if truly effective, but I wonder what effect could...

Unfortunately, I’m still unable to go to concerts and it will likely remain that way as it’s impossible to cut down the low frequencies (bass, kick drum, etc.) with hearing protection. Really sucks to have that ripped away as shows were my happy place for years.

Tinnitus/Hyperacusis After Years of Loud Music — 3+ Months of Hell on Earth

Hey there, I would say overall I am doing better these days. My tinnitus is 100% here to stay and is still loud as hell if I focus on it or find myself in a quiet room, but otherwise I can usually tune it out and would say I’m pretty much habituated to the tinnitus itself, unless it has spiked...

Poll: How Was Your Hearing Before Hyperacusis?

I voted “normal”, but it is possible I already had some kind of hearing loss, as I would crank my music way up when listening on a home stereo, car audio system, or headphones. To me, if I couldn’t feel each drum hit like I would at a live show, it wasn’t loud enough and needed to be turned up...

Totally. Should be on the same level as drugs/alcohol, smoking, drunk driving, texting while driving, and wearing a seatbelt. Listen to Your Ears — Maybe I Could Have Avoided Tinnitus and Some Level of Sound Sensitivity

I’d say I am definitely in a better place emotionally than I was a few months ago, mostly due to the shock of the situation fading into acceptance as time moves on. Day-to-day life has become somewhat easier as I am learning what triggers setbacks and which situations call for using hearing...

Pretty interesting how you never really abused your ears much through loud concerts and headphones but still ended up with some tinnitus and sensitivity. I can relate to...

Do You Remember Your Last Day of Silence?

I sure do. It was a pretty great day (Friday, 11/12/21). I spent it working from home, listening to some good music, and getting ready for a night out to a music venue I enjoyed very much. Unfortunately I didn’t wear earplugs to the (very loud!) gig and came home with a slight ringing in my...

Hyperacusis, Ear Fullness and Tinnitus After Exposed to Giant Amps at an After-Hours Gig

That’s what I’ve been thinking of getting into as well. I was a bass player and wannabe drummer before this whole mess but both instruments have unfortunately been gathering dust in the past few months. I have picked up my acoustic guitar here and there though, and have toyed with the idea of...

Hey @FearsforEars, welcome to the forums. I can totally relate to what you’re going through. I’m a musician/music fanatic as well, and tinnitus/hyperacusis hit me like a freight train last November. My situation started with very low level tinnitus after a super loud concert, which I did not...

Hi @LostSpartan, I can totally relate to your feelings as I experience the same push-and-pull between feeling OK vs. complete despair on an hourly basis, and it seems the cause of our tinnitus is similar (loud music). Tinnitus/Hyperacusis After Years of Loud Music — 3+ Months of Hell on Earth

Thanks for the replies, y’all. As awful as the tinnitus/hyperacusis is in general, what really has me in the pits is having to miss out on so many concerts and events I’d been looking forward to as well as not being able to play in a band, as these things were a huge part of my life and I feel...

Tinnitus/Hyperacusis After Years of Loud Music — 3+ Months of Hell on Earth

Hello everyone, apologies in advance for the long, rambling post. I’ve been hanging around Tinnitus Talk for the past 3 months, and figured it’s about time to make an account and tell my story. Back in November ‘21 I attended a very loud concert a bit too close to the stage and PA speaker, and...
