Loud noise
Hi,

I'm 17 and my tinnitus started a while ago, but it was very silent and I barely heard it, only when I went to sleep and then not even all the time. I always wear earplugs when I go to parties. It probably started because I was standing too close to the speakers once.

A month ago it became worse, I even hear it above the tv now.

I don't know why because I hadn't been in a loud environment that day.

I think it's because I started focussing on it that week because we've had some lessons about it at school. Some moments it's better, especially when I don't focus on it and in the morning. It's worse in the evening.

It's very hard not to focus on it and I keep telling myself not to, but I keep doing it anyway.
I've been panicking ever since it started.

Why did it became worse without doing anything loud?

I went to the doctor, he gave me meds but they didn't really work. Two weeks later I went to the specialist. I asked him a lot of questions like: am I still able to go to parties, can I still watch movies and listen to music with headphones. And he said I can still do all of that but I'm scared it will get worse anyways.

I bought custom made earplugs now, but what if they can't protect me enough?

I love diving, will I still be able to do that?

In 3 weeks there's '100 days', that's a day where last years party because they only have 100 days left in highschool. It's a thing everyone has been looking forward to since they were 12. I want to go really bad, with my earplugs of course, but is it safe?

Is there a chance my tinnitus will still go back to its former state?
I'm scared that I'll never be able to live with it, especially when it gets louder.

Thank you for reading.

Hey and welcome. The best thing you can do is get a dB meter app on your phone and familiarize yourself with safe exposure times. If the music is loud enough, you may still be at risk even with earplugs. Not sure about the diving, maybe others can chime in on that. Only time will tell if the T will go down, but in order to facilitate that happening you're gonna wanna rest your ears as much as possible. Good luck.
