2024 US Presidential Election

If wealth = intelligence, then you're not exactly the sharpest tool in the shed either, by your own logic.
Best be careful, your job at the IRS is in jeopardy; you'll have to move closer.

Germany had a good day yesterday; they apparently have had enough of dangerous leftist nonsense. They need freedom of speech, a stronger military, improved migration policies, and more that hopefully will happen soon.

I think you're referring to AfD? Yes, they did well in the elections—but the CDU/CSU won.

Moreover, even though it came second, the AfD is blocked from being part of the next government because of a so-called "firewall" (or Brandmauer) operated by Germany's main parties, who do not co-operate with any party seen as extremist since the end of World War Two.

So, ultimately, their influence remains to be seen.

I don't work for the IRS, I work for the Clown Detection Service (CDS).
It was said on threads over the past few years that "clown" Trump would likely end up in prison, not be permitted to run for office, go broke, etc. The true clowns are the ones who made those predictions and we're laughing at it now.

Let's see if Zelenskyy signs a minerals deal with Trump. Europe isn't going to like it, as they had their eyes on Ukraine's resources, and Trump's response will be, tuffski shitski.

I wonder what Zelenskyy would do differently if he could go back three years in time?
Nothing.

P.S. Excellent post, by the way, @Ngo13!!!

Well, considering now that we have just sided with Russia to vote against a U.N. resolution condemning Moscow for the invasion of Ukraine and calling for territory to be returned, it's just another sign that we are rapidly headed toward authoritarianism. The US is voting with Russia's vassal state, North Korea. Imagine that. That's how far we're bending over.

Europe should honestly just consider us a hostile country at this point. I'm glad Canada kicked our asses in Hockey this week.
Great post. Thank you for taking the time. As mentioned throughout the thread, it's the low-information voter that got us to this point of having Trump in office again, and now we are all suffering the consequences. Four years is a long time, and who knows how much damage is yet to be done.
All of us will suffer in some way. But Trump's base will simply blame the Democrats at first for any failures. It's a cult, so until they feel the damage themselves, they won't believe it because they live in a dystopian reality. No matter how sound the argument is, it won't sway his supporters. They need to feel the damage instead. It will take at least a few years before any sense starts to befall the electorate (especially the ones that decided to sit out in the 2024 elections) if that even happens.
Focusing on the relevance to our struggles with tinnitus, Trump's massive cuts to the CDC and FDA will have serious implications for future treatment approvals (Auricle anyone?), research, and clinical trials. One of the many positions eliminated was the director of the Office of Product Evaluation and Quality at the Center for Devices and Radiological Health, the very office responsible for approving medical devices.

How will anything get approved to help us if the office overseeing it has no leadership?

Yet again, to all the Trump supporters, why the silence on this? You are here in the forum, surely suffering immensely and looking for relief as soon as possible. So where is the outrage? I am simply baffled.

Is it really that hard to see through the smoke and mirrors? Trump is following the classic playbook for dictatorship. He is attacking:
  • Arts and leisure (budget cuts to Parks and Recreation, privatization, and drilling in national parks)
  • Education (cuts and attempts to dismantle the Department of Education)
  • Healthcare (cuts to the NIH, CDC, and FDA)
  • Civil rights (removing protections for women, minorities, and other vulnerable groups)
For the first time in history, elected representatives were denied access to the Department of Education, while Elon Musk, who was not elected, was inside. Armed guards were even called in to prevent access.

He is trying to privatize the USPS, which would allow him to control access to information and its distribution. He is flooding the courts and Congress with executive orders, many of them illegal or unconstitutional, to keep them overwhelmed and distracted. He pardoned criminals who attempted to overthrow the government and murder elected officials. In the past, such acts of treason would have led to execution, yet he let them go.

He is installing loyalists in high positions of power while using scapegoats, immigrants, to distract his base from what he is doing behind the scenes: tax cuts for himself and his allies, consolidating power, and making more money.

My grandmother was a teenager during World War Two. She is almost 95 now, and she has warned me from the beginning that she has seen this before. She lived through it once already. Every red flag is being raised. Every checkbox is being marked. Historians are sounding the alarm.

Many people I know voted for him for the economy. But with all his executive orders, he has not lowered grocery or gas prices. They are actually higher. Look at the price of eggs. And he is making it worse by limiting the government's ability to communicate with farmers and study the bird flu epidemic to prevent its spread.

Your taxes will likely go up under his tax plan. The diversity equity and inclusion protections he abolished? Those probably helped those of us who need accommodations for tinnitus and other hearing related conditions. Now they are gone.

You know who else did all of this? Came to power during economic hardship with no real qualifications for political leadership. People said, but he is different. He is going to change things. I am sure Germans could tell you a little about that one. Replace illegals with Jewish and you can figure out the rest.

But Trump is a businessman. He will fix things.

Besides the fact that he has a long history of failed businesses, since when do we glorify CEOs as being good for the average worker? They are the ones who lay off employees while increasing their own bonuses. And the United States is not a corporation, nor should it ever be. We do not need a CEO, which is just a euphemism for a dictator. We need a leader, someone who strengthens alliances, Trump did the opposite, unites the country, he has divided it even further, and helps ordinary people live without worrying about government and politics because it just runs in the background while we live our lives.

Every action Trump takes is the opposite of what a good president would do. We are once again the laughingstock of the world stage. His base only fuels even more extreme ideas. In Arizona, proposed legislation would require men to give consent for women to access birth control and reproductive healthcare, straight out of The Handmaids Tale. Should I pull out my red coat now? Blessed be the fruit, indeed.

I feel lucky I had my baby last year. With the deletion of CDC databases, references my doctor would have used to check for side effects, tinnitus anyone?, medication interactions, or vaccine information are now gone.

For those who say, just ignore it, turn off the news for the next four years, do not care about politics, we do not have that luxury. Ask the German citizens who were forced to dig mass graves in the ruins of concentration camps how ignoring it and just living their lives turned out.

Trump's presidency is a nightmare worse than I ever imagined. How can anyone still support him? How can they not see past his theatrics to the real harm he is causing? I am baffled and exhausted.

Let us hope we are still able to hold an election. And that someone will be able to pick up the broken pieces of the United States he leaves in his wake.
This is a really great post. There's not much else to say, really. I would stick this post on every page in this thread if it were up to me. :)

I'll just add that it's absolutely sickening to watch what these billionaires in power are doing. They are looking for any kind of pretext to destroy and revamp social programs like Social Security and Medicare, all in the name of privatization, even if they need to subvert the Constitution. And like you pointed out, they're also pushing to privatize the U.S. Postal Service, which is a core public good. They are not even trying to hide their intention anymore.

You have this turd, Elon Musk, an unelected billionaire rummaging through our federal agencies with no accountability and showing no evidence of abuse. The only evidence we have is his word, which is no good. It's ironic because this cuck receives millions of dollars in government contracts and subsidies; he is the richest welfare recipient in the world. Talk about conflict of interest, too.…

The rise of authoritarianism and oligarchy is on full display. Their champion of 'anti-corruption' is the most corrupt president we have ever seen, with a shadow President in Musk.
MAGA beliefs are built on so many lies that any rational debate becomes impossible, as this thread clearly shows.
Very true.

It's a cult, so facts are impossible to convey. Take the dismantling of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), for example. These MAGA fools likely never heard of USAID until 2 weeks ago and now are just repeating a narrative they have been given to oppose it for whatever (insert lie) it is.

Tomorrow, there will be another talking point and another. And yet their economic situations or benefits won't improve and will worsen.

From what I understand, Secretary of State Marco Rubio is going to take over USAID to eliminate waste, fraud, and corruption. It's the U.S. taxpayer's money, and they demand that the fraud be eliminated and clawed back if possible and that the people involved be prosecuted.

I guess the potential upside of changing the landscape to basing everything on bullshit, making words and agreements meaningless, weaseling out of whatever you want, and doing your best to get over on the other guy, means that others get to do the same, so we'll just have to see what actually happens.

Paranoid side note: Zelensky is coming here to sign the mineral rights deal; it's a good time for Putin to try something and for Trump to accidentally fail to keep him safe. Get the deal signed, Zelensky out, drop a lefty manifesto somewhere, put a new pro-Russian prez in place, milk everything for all it's worth, and get everyone paid; MAGA ejaculates nonstop, then who cares after that?

Oh no! All zero of them?

You always make the most unintentionally hilarious posts, @just1morething.
It sounds straightforward to me. I would bet most of the illegal aliens didn't pay anything into Social Security like the rest of us. It just sounds like more fraud that DOGE is finding. The Democrats were doing everything they could to help the illegal aliens so they could become future Democratic voters.

So, a "Gold Card" to bring in the filthy rich "wonderful people."

Next, they'll be handing out "Get Out of Dodge" cards to Black and Hispanic communities—offering $2,000 to leave voluntarily. A couple of years later, that will mean concentration camps and Guantanamo Bay.

Then, only when America is as white as driven snow, will it finally be "Great Again."

I thought that you were probably white. I only know that most Norwegians are gay because it's so damn natural for them. I suppose in Norway they think men can become pregnant.

President Trump announces he will be REMOVING ALL illegal aliens that are currently on Social Security.
Immigrants living in the country illegally are not eligible for Social Security retirement benefits. Undocumented workers contribute billions to Social Security each year, even though they cannot collect benefits without a change in their immigration status. This group paid an estimated $25.7 billion in Social Security taxes in 2022.

Prejudiced people are usually the ones who make the most accusations of racism. Your claim about changing immigration in some ways in America is wrong.

I am not about to go on the defensive due to nonsensical comments from citizens of a tiny, inconsequential country.

The Wikipedia page titled Racism in Norway probably includes facts that would apply to you.

Sounds pretty defensive to me.
I thought that you were probably white.
Oh, I'm white! I'm proud of it, too. I don't bronze up or do anything to hide it.

I'm sorry, you guys! It's just as a Norwegian, I've got a sixth sense when it comes to nazism, and I think it's important to point out the dangerous path you've taken. That's all!

Stay white, you hear!?!

Has there been one single person on this forum who has been as obsessed with race-baiting as you are?

I live in NYC, where as many as 800 languages are spoken, and has the largest foreign-born population of any place in the world. In 2020, 69.1% of the city was non-white.

I have worked with, been friends with, lived with, and known more non-white people than you have probably seen, much less known, in your entire life.

You, my friend, have no idea who you are talking to or what you are talking about.

I do what I can.

That is great! NY is a great city, an example for the world to follow. Some of the people I admire the most are New Yorkers. Like Larry David, Robert de Niro, Jerry- and Ben Stiller, Steve Buscemi, and Debbie Harry, to name a few.

That is fair. You used to vote for Democrats, as I have gathered? How do they feel about you now, being a Nazi and everything?
You, my friend, have no idea who you are talking to or what you are talking about.
Oh, I have a pretty good idea. I have read your comments for months now. You are buying into something really sinister! With both hands! Parroting everything the Big Orange lay on you. You don't seem very critical, I can tell you that!

Do you actually think we would be better off with Kamala Harris than Trump? 77 million Americans voted for Trump-Vance because we needed drastic changes in the government. Trump has top notch cabinet members that have common sense.

Debbie Harry was from New Jersey.

I am aware that there is a substantial cultural lag concerning Northern Europe, but Godwin's Law is from the 1990's. I think that if Trump is a Nazi, he's the first one to have a daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren who are Jews. How many people have you personally known that had Auschwitz tattoos on their arms, which was common to see where I grew up? Your country surrendered to the Nazis on 9 June 1940.

You are sounding more and more like an embittered loser, probably because it's true. Calling people that you disagree with a "Nazi" is a very immature way to express yourself.

Grow up. There are adults here and your childishness reflects badly on this site.

Zelenskyy just blew the chance of a deal with the United States by attacking the administration and making demands. He does not know who he's dealing with. He shows no respect or appreciation for our help. We don't have to give them anything. As Trump said, he has no cards and is in no position to tell us what we have to do. He has ruined the relationship between Ukraine and America.

Someone said that he was "dressed like an Antifa protestor." His entire country should be embarrassed, and he needs to resign. He should not be the leader, and they need an election.

Trump/Vance are in full bully mode.

We know we have you over a barrel, and we're going to extract everything we can and give you as little as possible while still not crossing Putin.

Does Vance think he's the Bad Cop? He's such a despicable and unlikeable person; his injection wasn't helpful at all; it was just a childish dig like you'd expect on a playground, trying to shade the discussion as Zelenskyy being ungrateful and them doing him a big favor when they really aren't. They'll be replaying that in billionaire's school for a long time.

Ukraine might do better without this version of us, which I'm sure they already know, which allows some space to get a little frisky. Trump has so much of his mouth invested in ending the invasion that Zelenskyy isn't in quite as weak of a position as they're trying to bully him into thinking. They would probably do better with the EU and the US, but they can probably do pretty well with just the EU, and it frees them up to be more aggressive on offense. We give them a lot, but it comes with a pretty heavy chain.

Oh well… the silver lining is we got a glimpse of what Mr. JD Vance will look like as our authoritarian-in-chief as Mr. Trump continues his inevitable decline into his dotage. At least TASS will be there to help document how his kind handlers will be protecting him as that becomes moar of an issue. 🥳

President Zelenskyy (if you can call him a President) was being antagonistic towards Trump and Vance, according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio. How is a peace deal supposed to get done if Zelenskyy acts that way? They were supposed to sign a mineral rights deal, and that went down the drain, at least for now.
