Seems like you don't understand that habituation can look differently for other people. Some can ignore their tinnitus and rarely notice it, others hear it constantly but still carry on. Also the general consensus on here is that habituation is possible - but habituation doesn't have to mean that you don't hear it anymore. I don't see how that's taking away hope for someone. It is not possible for everyone to ignore their tinnitus. Key people on here for me are for example: Bill, Fishbone, Michael, Glynis - but I don't see how they haven't moved on. They're not homebound, they're still doing a lot of things in their lives, they've found a way to live with their tinnitus. And the advice they're giving is similar to what you're recommending.
Habituation = coping/moving forward and living our lives. I am not saying that you said this but habituation DOES not mean that we cannot hear the sound anymore. As I have said in majority of my posts, habituation is possible no matter what the level of sound/intensity we have. Some can be rattled by the low/hiss (beginner stages of tinnitus), while others like myself are not even bothered and I have beyond loud and intrusive level tinnitus.
You can read my posts, I have had hardships all my life and I wear a lot of badges of pain. Tinnitus is just another badge and I still live, move forward and thrive in the one life I have. I have a different approach to life than most. It all comes down to mindset and having a strategy in life and with affliction (Tinnitus+Fibro/Arthritis).
I refuse to be stuck in my house, because my damn ears ring like hell. Let them ring, I will still do something. I was not like this when I first got tinnitus, I took me a long time to develop, this mentality but all of us can live with tinnitus no matter how good or bad it is......
