An Operation to Make Deaf? Would It Cure Tinnitus?

When I block my ear with my ear lobe the whine becomes louder just like putting one ear on a pillow. So how would that make it a brain thing? I am not convinced it's not signals sent from oscillating cochlea hairs. On the other hand I'm all in agreeance it has to be faulty neurons or chemicals. I have not concluded either is correct......

You've touched on the reason that it's so difficult to get a solid treatment. What you experience isn't necessarily what the next person does. I have neck related issues and can modulate the volume quite severely if I'm not careful but another may have no effect at all from the same thing. There are many causations.

Back to the first post though, I worked with a guy who was deaf in one ear from birth and he had tinnitus on that side. Had it on his hearing side also but not as bad.

I understand that for some people tinnitus is very loud and severe, driving them to the brink and even contemplating their life.

If tinnitus is that bad for a very minute percentage of us. Is there not an operation that could be done to make the sufferer completely deaf?

Cutting the audiotory nerve to induce deafness would only make tinnitus worse because you are not restoring the hearing input the brain is looking for, you are abolishing it. The idea goal would be to restore hearing to prevent the faulty neuro plasticity.
