We visited the children and young people's ward at the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital last week.
In the corridor there was a display of artwork done by the patients.
These two really touched me.
Aisha is 15y, and Gil is 13y.
Painting by Western artist Frank Tenney Johnson
called "The Journey."
After years of struggle, he finally became a National Acadamician as his career took off.
One weekend he attended a house party of friends, and kissed the hostess a greeting.
She died of spinal meningitis a couple of days later, and he a few days after.
Our health is so fragile.
He was a master of nocturnal skies, and kept the secret to himself.
His trademark is always a detail painted in 'hot' colour.

I also like Edouard Manet's work, such as this painting for example, called "Argenteuil" (which is the name of the location, not far from Paris):
And I also appreciate more modern and abstract pieces of art such as this very colorful one:
It was made by the portuguese artist Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso. I discovered his work at an exhibition in Porto a few years ago.

@Holly1987 - A couple of paintings by American artist Maynard Dixon, of the Californian depression era. He was married for a while to the brilliant photographer Dorothea Lange, who photographed for the agricultural and farm administration bureau.
(The mother who sold the tyres off her car to buy food for her children.)

One of my favorite artists is Edward Hopper.

I am especially drawn to his images of lonely people. Even though there's a couple in "Room in New York," they're each doing their own thing as if the other wasn't even there.
Hopper's most famous painting is "Nighthawks." Again, the people seem lonely even though they're all in the diner together.
