Just wanted to share that, last night, I was starting to wonder if I was at a 'new normal' - not an ideal sort of normal, mind you, but I figure it is what it is... And then... baseline this morning - wow!

I want you to know it is highly likely you will go back to your old baseline again - we nearly always do.

I have to wonder if the 2400 mg of NAC are helping with this. I was taking 1800 mg, but one of my guardian Earth-Angels, here (@GSC ), pointed out where I may try 2400 mg, and at that level - I feel pretty awesome (tinnitus reduction can do that).

I'll let you know, in a few hours, if there is a change.


P.S. I am not expecting this to last forever, but it is great while it lasts.
 
Yes NAC wipes out my tinnitus completely, I don't know what the heck is in that stuff!! =]

I think that Eventually you will end up with your T being as quiet as it is right now, and probably a lot quieter and softer.

Normally you want to take 1,200. I guess it is ok to take double the dose once in a while after being exposed to noise. Having said this, after taking 2 pills per day (2,400) for many months, I found out that exceeding 1200 can do some serious damage (I think the damage is to the ears, I don't remember the details). Search the internet for "an overdose of NAC". In any case, now I am a lot more careful with it. I take no more than half a pill (600) a day. Goes without saying that following noise exposure, I would take 1,200 or even 2,400 or more. I kind of tested it on myself, and taking 2,400 hasn't harmed me.

@Bill Bauer , I wish you knew where that article is, because a lot of us take more than 1200 mg of the stuff. I have spent a couple of hours looking for it, and, like anything else out there that is deemed safe - which this stuff is indeed purported to be - there are cases where cerebral edema has occurred. It is the kind that is akin to what has happened to people vis-a-vis high altitude situations - where excess fluid develops there - and that in turn, can cause seizures, and even death, rarely.

I found, people are on regiments of up to 900mg X 3 per day - and less often - up to 3600 mg per day. They gradually get to this level. Moreover, these individuals are not taking it for our thing, but for psychiatric related disorders - and it surely is showing promise for them. However, this stuff balances glutimate - and we, too, need that to happen.

It seems undisputed that it reduces oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. Therefore, in an attempt to mitigate our tendency to present imbalances in our excitatory/inhibitory systems - due to abnormalities in our glutamatergic pathways, the NAC can work for us as both a glutamatergic modulator and an antioxidant for us. In other words, we can come off our panic induced spikes much easier with NAC.

What I am saying is there is now clinical evidence, showing NAC can "normalize glutamate neurotransmission into the nucleus accumbens and other brain structures, in part by upregulating the expression of excitatory amino acid transporter 2 (EAAT2), a.k.a. glutamate transporter" (Slattery, et al., 2015, p. 295).

Oh, and this quote is surely important: "Overall, NAC treatment appears to be safe and tolerable" (Slattery, et al., 2015, p. 295)

I can't find it now! When I first saw it, I was shocked that I have been taking a dose that was above that recommended on my bottle of NAC, and that according to that source was dangerous. So I just began taking half the dose recommended on the bottle, and I didn't look into this any further. This will be a lesson for me to always double check everything I see on the internet...
 
If I had to take a dangerous dosage to help reduce my tinnitus then I would. At least I'd have a tiny bit of a normal life beforehand possibly passing away. I've bought some of these.

I forgot to put this up here; as a series of dosing instructions appear in this article. Moreover, I've been familiar with this limit for close to a week - I saw it on three peer-reviewed journal articles, earlier in the week, when I was trying to determine all that. I have access to all kinds of goodies via my university library coop, but this is a trusted overview which anyone can lookup.

NAC's antioxidant actactivities might help to contribute to overall health by reducing the cell damage that sets the stage for a host of diseases. The University of Maryland Medical Center suggests starting with 500 mg daily and slowly increasing with your doctor's supervision. It reports doses higher than 7,000 mg could cause toxicity."

After reading a few of the posters' causes of tinnitus and how long they have had it etc for this product and Vitamin Supplement (Nicotinamide Riboside).

I hope this works for me as my tinnitus was also initially caused by exposure to loud noise years ago and random one off exposures since making it gradually worse, plus stress too.
 
To whom it may concern:

I'm still on the 2400mg of NAC, plus the usual 2400mg of GABA supplement; I wanted to give it some time before reporting back on things. I chose today because, it is like with my original post, "Back Down to Baseline, Today, with Just a Little Jingle in My Left Ear — Yay!"

You may ask - why do I say back down? Well, the pollen and pet dander must have been up, or something, because after I did some Spring cleaning - and took some Claritin - I am back down from the loud hiss, stuffy ear - and left just with that bell jingling a little in the usual ear.

So far as the NAC goes, I know it helps regulate panic mode - together with the GABA - better than anything OTC, for me at least (and there is peer-reviewed content maintaining this functionality). That aspect of it has a trickle-down effect on the tinnitus severity, credibly, and it staves off the panic/anxiety attacks 100% - even when the tinnitus is outrageous.
