So, my hearing has deteriorated with age and my tinnitus is a bit "louder." I am a hardwood timber farmer, so lots of exposure to loud noises and firearms (e.g., tractor, sawmill, chainsaw, log splitter, etc.). I currently use passive protection in the form of 3M foam earplugs and muffs with an NRR of 24. It's a real PITA because I haven't yet taught my fully bearded and mustachioed husband American Sign Language (I was an interpreter in my early career) and I can't easily speech read him, so I often have to remove the muffs.
I'm looking for recommendations from those of you who use electronic hearing protection that has at least an NRR in the high 20s, can be used with long guns, and amplifies speech and environmental sounds. My audiologist had a recommendation, but it's for a product with a lower NRR.
Any preferences? Any other considerations that I'm not thinking about?
