Cause of Tinnitus
Loud concert
Protecting my ears using earmuffs whilst on a noise catamaran ferry. Naturally, I fell asleep and the muffs rested against the chair which was vibrating due to the engine (similar to feeling vibration on planes and buses etc).

I woke up with the earmuffs vibrating which was causing a humming sound in the earmuff. This has naturally worried me, as I was asleep and could not move my head away. I was asleep for an hour, so this was maximum exposure time.

Tinnitus has spiked slightly as a result and a new hum.

Could this be the cause? Any ideas as to how loud the exposure would have been, if vibration and not noise directly?

Thanks all.

Where is this ferry? Australia?

How difficult is it to wake you up? It seems to me that if it wasn't loud enough to wake you up right away, it ought to be ok. And if you woke up right away, then your exposure time is too short to do any damage.

You don't have a full ear sensation, your spike is mild. I wouldn't worry about it just yet.

I got T as a result of vibrations made by a sonic toothbrush. So I not much of an expert.

Wow!
If you don't mind me asking:
-for how long have you used the toothbrush before you noticed T and stopped using it, and
-it was the volume or the frequency, or both

Tx

I was going to send you a private message, but your settings don't allow it. To make a long story short, a Sonicare toothbrush came in contact with the opening of my ear canal for a fraction of a second. I felt a full ear sensation right away. I had a hearing test done 10 days after the event. In the evening of that day I heard T turn on. I doubt it was the hearing test that did this to me. All of the sounds I heard were very soft. However, it is certainly a strange coincidence that my T began on the day of the hearing test. Also, there are a number of others here who described this happening to them. I am still convinced that it was the toothbrush that did this to me. To summarize, you will be ok if you use it the way it was intended to be used. However, you are an inch away from causing a lot of damage to yourself. I had stopped using my Sonicare toothbrush...
