Can Ear Wax Make Tinnitus Louder?

Cause of Tinnitus
?
I have had consistent tinnitus for three years now. Last month, I had a really bad cold. I noticed my right ear became plugged up with wax a few times.

The plugged up feeling went away, but since then, my tinnitus feels louder and I am having an increase in fleeting episodes, almost daily. Before, fleeting was very random and rarely happened. The fleeting is very short. The usual. I am super scared and anxious. And as a father, I am simply failing. I am distracted all the time when I am watching my baby. It kills me. I should be focused 110% in my baby. But all I think about is the endless noise in my head. I have been very careful with my ears, no head phones.

I should mention I quit cannabis a few months ago and am experiencing PAWS to a degree. I read some other people on this have anxiety problems from this.

Any help/insight would be appreciated. I am seeing a nurse practitioner next week to look into my ears about wax.

Very sad, and very scared...

Hello @Jack Sparrow

Shiver m'timbers! So sorry you're feeling this way and experiencing worsened tinnitus - it really can feel hopeless sometimes!
Anyway, I haven't experienced this myself, but I have read about ear wax build up causing tinnitus, so I can only imagine more wax would make it worse!

Best advice I've had for ear wax build up is to use olive oil drops at night for 3 nights in left ear, then use Otex for 1 night. Then, put olive oil drops in right ear for three nights, then put Otex in ear on the fourth night. You will find your ears feel a bit more compact, and perhaps you will hear the tinnitus more, but it will help remove the ear wax. I got this advice from an audiologist at Specsavers in the UK. He was also advising microsuction, but I didn't want to take the risk with that so didn't have it.

Sorry no-one has responded until now - I hope my response helps!

I'm currently looking into how vaccinations may affect tinnitus - if you know anything, please let me know!

I appreciate your kindness. Thank you. Unfortunately I have been suicidal this month. This may be my last post ever. Nobody understands, and I can't "live" like this. It's debilitating and there is nothing. Therapy doesn't count.

Signing off of life,

Captain Jack

Time for some tough love here.

Sorry, man, you signed your right to suicide away the moment your baby was conceived. If you quit, you're wrecking an innocent being's life who was created by you. That is not permissible. You had tinnitus for at least two years before this poor child was even conceived; you know what it is like, amd still went ahead with this. No quitting now until that child is grown and safely on his/her way.

Find solace in the promise of upcoming treatments, or in drugs, or whatever, but you cannot quit. I am pro-choice in suicide, but only if you're not leaving behind dependents, and there's nothing more dependent than a baby.

And yes, earwax can make tinnitus louder, as listed on every audiologist's website ever.
