I recently ordered a tinnitus sound therapy similar to notched music. It requires listening to customized music on headphones everyday.

Is it worth it and safe at low volumes? They have many successful testimonials and a clinical trial backing their treatment.

Neuromod will require headphones too as will Dr. Susan Shore's device.

What if this sound therapy will dramatically reduce my tinnitus but my fear of headphones is preventing me from getting better?

Your fear of headphones is irrational. Do not listen to Michael Leigh's shit advice.

Sound therapy through headphones is safe as long as you don't max out the volume.

What is the sound therapy?

If by sound therapy, you mean something that operates like Tinnitus Retraining therapy, then set the music just below the threshold of your tinnitus. The idea is that this allows the brain to habituate. I don't find this entirely successful but it has been useful for me. I am using White Noise devices that allow me to hear conversation and regular background noise. But the cost of TRT is exorbitant. Something like $3000. each device costs $800 for each ear. The other option is plain old sound enrichment where are you get something like an oasis sound machine and play ocean waves or rain throughout the night. That can be helpful. You can also use it during the day.

I am on the waiting list for Nuromod in Ireland which as far as I know is the only western approach where they've had some consistent reasonable success, something like two out of three people showing improvement.
